Thoughts

Having read Jadiel’s analysis of his and holytispon’s warm-up games, I’m going with his suggestion for Spectral Aven as a strong P1T1 play.
My go-to plan with mono-blue is a Peace engine, which is vulnerable to Assimilate, so I’ll have to try some other things here. We’ll see how it goes!

Thoughts

Stewardess of the Undone seems to be the big threat in the early game, so I’m hoping to mitigate her effect by having a bunch of cheap units on board. This might make me vulnerable to Rewind, but not anytime soon. Inspector is likely to die to Nullcraft, but Aven would kill it shortly afterwards, leaving me ahead in gold. Of course I’ll also be ahead if Inspector stays alive!
Teching Brave Knight as a strong unit to copy, and Overeager Cadet just for the value. Still not sure what my longer-term plan is…

Thoughts

Already in a tight spot. the inspector makes it hard for me to build Tech 1. I can take him out with FF but that’s costly and my hero will die, feeding levels. Teching double Now!s to make Geiger hasty if necessary and get rid of pesky Avens as well as mirrors. We’ll see how it goes. I’m expecting MT to make the mirror another Aven and deal 4 damage - so that can make my tech 1 really miserable if I don’t get rid of the Aven first.

Huh, no tech 1 building yet. I’m curious what holytispon is thinking, so I guess I’ll go ahead and have a look!

Not just one, but two Now! I guess he really wants to get rid of Spectral Aven… I should definitely drop a Newsman to block it. A bit of a bummer, since I had a cool idea I wanted to do with Brave Knight and Manufactured Truth on the Inspector (bouncing him to my hand after killing Fargo). But I can’t afford it all without skipping a worker, which is not worth it.
As I see it, holytispon’s only option is going to be Prynn + Temporal Research, which is already 4 gold, and I don’t think he has a big threat in his deck to play afterwards. Maybe Nullcraft, but that I can live with.
I’m patrolling Inspector in technician so that, whether he’s killed or bounced, I’m back up a card!

I think I’ll try some misdirection here. Everyone expects Garrisons when they see Peace, not surprise Air Hammers! If holytispon techs an Assimilate in response, I’d consider this a win no matter what happens next. Would’ve liked to get a Spy too, but tower put a damper on that.
Feels a bit silly having all my teched cards in hand and not playing any of them, but Free Speech would be trivial to just play around. I guess I could drop Cadet and make up for the loss in handsize next turn with Lawful Search. In fact, this way I’ll be guaranteed to draw an Air Hammer, plus it helps with the aforementioned misdirection…
Hitting tech 1 with Aven to set up breaking it next turn. Don’t mind the tower damage, as Aven is likely to get bounce-popped by Stewardess anyway.

After the draw: oops, miscalculated my deck size, might whiff on Air Hammer next turn. Counting is hard…

Already made some serious errors. didn’t really take into consideration I was P2. Mox may not be as useful at p2, and I probably need the tower earlier. I also forgot that with blue, because of the inspector, it’s often better to build tech 1 on turn 1 (and get those stewardesses out). I didn’t even trade the plexus for the aven, it was a big mistake. Bracing myself for that Peace engine…

I’m in a pretty secure position. All of holytispon’s teched cards are either on the board, blocked by Newsman, or still in his discard. That means there’s no need for Free Speech or breaking his tech 1. Granted, he could build tech 2 next turn, but with his low hand size he’s unlikely to get a scary unit for the turn afterwards.
So I’m just going to solidify my position and try to set up a big next turn with mirrors.

I can’t let Prynn stick around, so it looks like his tech 1 building will live another turn… Still, I keep filling the board while he’s struggling to contain my guys, so I’d say this is a good position.
Teching Gryphons might be optimistic, but I’m not sure I’ll have anything to spend gold on next turn, other than a tech 3 building. Well, depending on my hand and the board state I might want to use Lawful Search to look for a good Community Service target. We’ll see.

Thoughts

I can finish this in 2 turns, if I can just keep my Air Hammers alive. Any spells that can mess with them, I can prevent with Free Speech. But the right tech 2 unit or even a single Nullcraft can hold me up. So I’ll Lawful Search holytispon’s hand to see if that’s available to him. Since I still have to tech cards, I’ll keep thinking about lethal and get General’s Hammer, though I don’t expect to use it.

First off, I’m glad to see he teched Assimilate lol. He can’t afford Rewind, but I’ll Free Speech anyway to shut down potential Prynn shenanigans, especially with Seers in hand. The real problem is Nullcraft, to be honest.
Actually, I just noticed I have Spectral Aven in hand! I’ll play him as a chump patroller, and my Air Hammers should be scot-free. I’ll also stash Arrest, just in case.

I didn’t pop your hammer because I thought you were going to go for my tech buildings or even race my bace, while I can rewind next turn. It was probably a mistake either way because the sparkshot didn’t actually kill your cadet - the only point of it was to make sure your cadet dies if it attacks.
In any case, this wasn’t a great game on my part - but we’re warming up! Hopefully I’ll be able to give you a bit more a challenge.

Mox down, might see both Battle Suits and Nullcraft next turn.
As much as I’d like to be aggressive with Aven again, I feel like preventing Battle Suits is a pretty high priority. So Newsman and a hero? Or maybe both Newsman and Aven? As long as I don’t whiff MTruth, I could do some serious damage.

Lawful search is an interesting card. I don’t really know how you would play around it. I can play around many other cards but that one, just kind of messes you up. The options purple has vs. blue are severly limited due to Manufactured Truth and the weakness of the purple heroes in early games, so it’s pretty hard to play around the fact your oppnent knows what you’ve teched.

I think air Hammers are a pretty unusual choice in this match-up. I tend to think purple has better flying units than blue (I may be wrong about it) but I was so behind that it didn’t matter and I couldn’t really get to tech 2. I do think that my biggest mistake is not taking into consideration that I was player 2. Even before that turn 2 lawful search - I shouldn’t have fed that Nexus to the Aven, knowing that it wouldn’t be a trade, and probably should have played tower earlier. oh well. On to the next one!

I think Manufactured Truth is a strong tempo play (I hope I’m using that term right…), but it can’t really give card advantage, can it? It’s often trading up in gold, but down in cards, unless it’s used on a Mirror or copying a flying unit or whatever. And besides, there’s only one copy of it, and then it’s in discard for a while, right? I don’t know if it’s stronger than green’s Rampant Growth, or black’s Deteriorate, for example.

And yeah, I find Air Hammers to be one of the weaker flying tech 2’s, unless you’re going all in on base damage. Their ability is all but useless against tech buildings and add-ons. But I guess the fact that you can copy them with Mirrors probably makes up for that.

Thoughts

Interesting decision by holytispon, going for an early tower. I could break it with MTruth on the Newsman, but that leaves my Aven vulnerable to Nullcraft, and doesn’t really benefit me. I’m not really aiming to be aggressive.
I could play a hero to rebuild hand size, but I think I’ll try Jail. It’ll force him to either go down on cards, or play heroes, either of which I’m fine with. And I’ll tech Brave Knight and Free Speech, to capitalize on both of those options.

The problem with Manufactured Truth is not that it’s better than deteriorate (it’s not) but that it blocks lots of common options for purple. Argonaut is a go-to tech 1 unit for purple but MT makes it a lot less efficient as you can use your little guys and they can sometimes even survive with readiness (Gilded Galxx is similar). Nullcraft is really dangerous if it’s on the table because any of your units can become a flying hasted unit. Vir’s Mech is a hard no because you work hard to get it and Blue just steals it to kill it with no problems (Knight of the Conclave is similar). So, there are not many options left in tech 1 and if you know what I choose with your lawful search, it’s really hard. If I go for spells you can go for free speech. If I go for units, you see exactly which ones. you can play around the Stewardesses etc.
