IsotopeX (Red) vs VaeVictus (Purple)

True, it’s very easy to score a knockout blow early on, and reach a point where the game isn’t over, but it feels futile to continue. Of course, so much depends on the specs…a Blue/Blue match can take a long time. Red is certainly explosive, but they aren’t good at taking a punch.

I’ll go another match, planning to switch to Green. Which may or may not involve ninja-Calamandra.

I don’t think I have ever played a game where base HP mattered out of a few dozen games. Both me and my usual opponent play control oriented games where it’s usual to have one or the other of us concede when the opponent has too high of a positional advantage.

The wins are secured when one person is at tech 2+ and the other won’t ever have a tech building or hero survive the turn again for the rest of the game.

The greatest potential for the opponent to come back and win is when they have surviving units and tech buildings. Our win condition is just to prevent them from getting back into the game. We don’t even consider base racing a thing.

Give me some time to choose a deck please. I’d like to try a specific plan this time rather than just… play new stuff.

Do you have a preference for first or second?

@Raiddinn - yeah, our experiences matche pretty closely. Watching people play in the forum have made me realize that I might have given on game that could have potentially be turned out due to me trying to play too much on tempo. But yeah, since most high-level stuff requires a Tech building or a living hero, it’s pretty much impossible to play from behind.

Ok, I’m ready to play some more games if you are still around  I’m going Blue, for kicks. Rolled 30.

OK, cool. I’ll go Mono-Black. Rolled 49, so I’ll get it started.

Umm… Isn’t Blue actually impossible to win against Black going first? ^^

As seen here: Black vs Blue: FrozenStorm & EricF experiment

I’m not sure it’s actually impossible, but it definitely is lopsided. Might not be much fun. I’ll go White instead.

It isn’t impossible, certainly not against a patrolling Jandra opening (@IsotopeX P1T1 has no need to patrol against Blue, unless you want your unit Arrested ^_^) That experiment was against Black’s “hardest” opening, Vandy Jav Haunt, which is just a really nasty opening for any P2 deck.

But I would set my expectations at that of an uphill battle, @VaeVictus

Heh, I WISH I could have done Vandy/Jav/Haunt…though the thought of skipping a Worker in turn 1 kind of makes me break out in hives. :grinning:

Sure, let’s roll a few turns, I gotta see it for myself, and thanks @FrozenStorm.

yea don’t skip a worker turn 1 lol

@VaeVictus I think it’s a good exercise to try it for sure, I’m happy to offer tips / advice about the matchup!

Quick question: Deteriorating a 1/1 at Squad Leader DOES kill it, right?

Yes. The Deteriorate reduces the unit’s life, it doesn’t do damage, so the armor doesn’t help.

I could have gone with either of the 3 heroes. Bigby would have awlloed me to play Injuction which I find helpful in halting the Black early rush. Quince comes with an extra body for blocking which could later turn into a threat on itself. Onimaru is the most straightforward but he might end up being a sitting duck if he’s not given a good target to attack.

Jandra has FAR too many sins to pay for. :smiling_imp:

OK, I figured that was some sort of mix-up on your part. Definitely more common online when you don’t have all the cards out there.

Yeah, sorry for that, man. I… get so caught up in panning out future turns that I end up overlooking trivial things. I spent half the day thinking which of the 3 heroes would be best to have out on the board.

It’s over, that Deteriorate sealed the deal.

Let’s go another Black/Blue  Rolled 55.

No worries. Jandra is really hard to handle early on anyway. My roll is 22, you’re up first!

I’m having a real hard time decided which hero to bring in first, with Blue.
Onimaru is great of course, but if you just play Jandra on squad leader, Onimaru’s frenzy becomes obsolete for a few turns. And he levels reaaally expensive, so I feared he’d become a dead weight.
Quince was more interesting, giving me an extra body and potential shenanigans with illusions copying Jandra/Imp. Also, access to Freespeech.
I’ve decided to go with Bigby because he’s more fighty than Quince and more importanly - with his max band, will help me recover from the inevitable Imp discard.
