I just went over the details, and I don’t know what I could have done. You had the draw power (along with Liches Bargain) to keep your side of the board stocked with great units. I ran out of cards and couldn’t find a way to replace them. I thought it was going to be Martial Mastery, but I didn’t read the card carefully enough. I thought it was discard one draw two. Discard two draw two does nothing worthwhile. To help your cause, you brought out those skellies. They fit nicely in the Tech and Scavenger slots. I read your thoughts and saw that you’d been expecting Discord for a minute. When I did get it off, it didn’t do anything lasting. Maybe Discord kept me in it one extra turn, not much beyond that.
looking back, i dont think that there was anything major you did wrong. i definitely got luckat at two parts: 1. Drawing the Theiving Imp right when you went down to 3 cards; 2. Feral Strike right when I maxed.
Skeleton spam is tough to deal with since you either fight the skeletons, or give the opposing player rewards. one thing i think that will help is not being so quick to skip workers. i would typically need to get a crucial tech kill, or maybe a hero kill, in order to skip a worker. it just compounds the rest of the game. the only reason i made it through this one was probably liches bargain, which costs you like 6 gold in total between the 2 up front, and the trashed worker.
i honestly felt behind almost the whole game. you did a great job of really addressing my board every turn. the only difference i would say is maybe an early tower instead of snapback. towers deal with skeletons well.
You make a couple of excellent points. I am too quick to skip a worker. Not just in this particular game. If you look back at our series of contests, I think you’ll find that I do that just about every single time. It always feels like the necessary action to make in the heat of the moment, but the implications are something I don’t really consider. The loss of one gold, if multiplied exponentially, is a serious handicap. The tower…the freaking tower. I didn’t put it together, even after looking back over the details, but you’re absolutely right. I was worried about Vandy. The big, bad boogieman (boogiewoman?) and used the snapback. If I had built the Tower I would have had protection against your weaker units or I could have purchased a beefier unit other than the weak-assed Aged Sensei. Plus, a tower would have prevented me going down a card. All-in-all, this was a tremendous learning experience. I’m not done yet, if you are good for another. I’m still honing my skills for the upcoming tourney and the large monetary purse that surely goes hand-in-hand with winning the thing. And the groupies. Anyhoo, I want to trade out Strength for Discipline and possibly Anarchy for Blood. I need to look it over, but you’re first anyway. I’ll def go white/red/finesse though. What’s your opinion on the Neutral starters? They seem to be a weaker amalgamation of the other starter sets, without any one thing being a standout. But maybe there’s something there that I’m not seeing. I do like the virtuoso that could turn into a force with with later additions of Grounded Guide, Maestro, and Nimble Fencer. Plus, wither/bloom are nice if expensive and the Brick Thief is unique. But are they better than the white or red starters?

Thoughts
he'll need some barbs right now to keep up. lucky for me not drawing the ancient turn 4. teching elm and dinosize to have options for win conditions.
Man, I thought you were running Growth, Necro, and either River or Troq with the neutral starters. When you summoned Cal, I actually thought that was the Growth hero. Then Arg shows up and I had to go look up who I’m dealing with. I don’t play or face Green too often. So is this a thought experiment, or can we really take the neutral starters with any Spec?
That being said, I highly doubt I would have done anything different up to this point even if I’d known who/what I was facing. Oh, and Blooming Ancient is a Beast. That was like having 4 free Bloom spells right there. Damn.
lo, hahahahaha, woops. looks like i need more sleep. im apparently playing fineese/necro/feral/growth. haaha. ill concede here by disqualification. that’s so funny. want to run it back as it should be FINESSE/NECRO/GROWTH? haha.
That works. Man I was so confused. But I didn’t want to come off looking stupid, cuz you really never know with this game. It stays out in left field pretty much all the time, and then occasionally it just wanders out to the meadows beyond left field, ya know? So I never really know what I’m getting into from one game to the next. Go ahead with your first turn.
