after burning legion just showed what red starter plus peace can do, this MU is a bit frightening, especially with war drums in the back of my head. but I think his deck is not as strong as burning legion, so it’s Barny time: challenge… accepted!
would have preferred BI+grave way over this start, but well… what can you do?
Ahh, it’s good to be back in the driver’s seat of a codex game. This starter matchup is a weird one, going second. Stealing gold is always great though, so we’ll do that, and set up a strong board here with an eye for teching up turn 3 if possible.

Thoughts
Aven is doing overtime, let’s drop more illusions and see whether he waters down his peace engine with answers…
would have loved to stack my cycle but with float 1 and pillage being around, scavenger is a no go.
Hmm well, spectral hound is a nuisance. I don’t trade well against it at all. I’ll pick up some targeting in my next set of techs if he continues to play them.

Thoughts
that turn of his leaves me with a weird feeling: going for peace but in the same time going down that hard with cards, sacrificing Drakk that easily… Is his second card of the first tech cycle already a garrison??? At least I can understand the patrol slot choice, even though I would have done differently. But well, I’ll take this possiblity to put some real pressure on the board
Hmm, I probably shouldn’t have teched up, knowing I wasn’t going to cycle. Aven is proving quite the pest. Surprised to see truth here, looks like I’ll need kidnapping.

It’s not possible to put to words how far the difference between expectation and reality of this match was, wow. Didn’t expect my illusions to be that effective against your heros with so many great answers…
