Ugh my nightmare, Blue starter vs Vandy horde P1… And I’m multicolor no less. Though, Grave midband does present a halfway decent defense option. Next turn I can do something like Grave Mid + Tower + Tech 1 + worker, if he gives me the TD gold (pretty likely). Would be nice to have the Newsman in the next hand… oh well. [/details]
I didn’t mean to make it so crazy… I just thought I’d try the deck I’m playing in the tournament because I’ve never actually played it beforehand. I played a handful of games with purple and black but only against blue. I guess randomized specs is pretty harsh… I’m sure you’ll find something to do.

Best chance I think is to get an early Peace machine online, and use Grave pressure if my tech buildings get knocked down. I really can’t afford an early meta, so I’m not going to risk giving up levels to a Shadow Blade. I’d rather make him spend money on removing units so he can’t afford Maxband Vandy. We’ll see how that goes though… [/details]
Normally my Rule of Thumb #1 for Vandy + Black Starter: If Vandy will survive to turn 3, always tech Dark Pact Combined with Hound for your deck probably, unless opponent has cheap targeting (Grappling Hook or Deteriorate)
Your deck actually has it kind of rough at tech 1 against White and Black starter, so I think the Hero’s Hall is a good idea in those instances, Glaxx is probably a good choice as well.

This is obviously a strong position but still I considered all sorts of variants for this turn. I could deteriorate his last soldier, and avoid any kind of counter attack but then i’ll be going down to one card and I want to make sure I could get that dark pact next turn. So I think it’s better not to go down another card and place the imp in SQL so that even if he copies my baron with manufacturd truth, he would only overpower 1 damage and won’t kill my heroes. I also considerd breaking the tower with vandy and killing the soldier with quince but it seems better to break tech 1.

Negative on the tech 1 surviving, and also negative on getting to keep MTruth + Arrest, which would have been HELLA SWEET as a counterplay here (I actually would have probably been in winning position, hell even MTruth would have been cheaper and outright killed the Imp), but this configuration of midband Grave in elite + the chip on Vandy means he has to re-draw Shadow Blade to Meta while re-breaking my tech 1. Next turn I tech up and either Maxband Grave for a sword kill #booya or midband Oni and hope to wear Vandy out. At least Quince is a pretty shitty Meta buddy…

Ok, I see - I did that wrong. I knew that tower would detect Vandy as she goes, but didn’t realize that the implication is that while she isn’t invisible she has to stop by the patrol. Quince will take the damage, and Vandy will sneak by (not taking 1 damage)

Cool no Shadow Blade so we get to keep the kill threat on, he’ll have to suicide Quince just to re-break the tower. I have plenty of pressure coming with Garrison, so it’s just a matter of keeping my base healthy enough (which versatile style helps with, funnily enough)
Again if there’s no Shadow Blade, I’m in very strong position, if Shadow Blade I’m probably toast (it’s insane this is even as close as it is… this is a crazy matchup)
