Blue’s old weakness: heroes with good combat stats. I can have him fly next turn and set up some defenses with a 3/3 cub. IDK what Midori should kill yet.

My priority is protecting the Newsman, so I’m prepared to lose Bigby or the Aven if he’s willing to pay to maxband Midori. I don’t really have a counter, but I’ll take consolation in how much gold it’s taking him to apply that pressure. So much that he’s delaying his Tech I, to play a Prospector? What could be his tech choices? Midori’s spells are all either blocked by the Newsman or depend on having units to sacrifice… maybe his plan was to Circle the Prospector?
Best thing to do right now is push for buffed Illusions, I think… in particular, getting Aven into position as a sticky SQL would make Midori a lot less scary. Beyond that, I’m still waiting to see what he specs into. If I can just hold the line until Gryphons, I should be able to preempt a number of threats. Gotta be sure to suppress his Tech II from that point on, though, lest I risk retaliatory Mimics.

Thoughts
With both Macciatus and the Aven, I should be able to protect my Tech II long enough to build a Tech III next turn, and with Bigby, I can stash a Gryphon if I draw one early, so I think it’s best to tech them in now. Not having Reteller is a concern, though… should I try to pull it with LSearch? It’s only a 1/3 chance, but… I guess it’s worth it. No luck, but let’s see what he’s holding… Showdown, eh? I think I can rely on the Aven to take the hit, then I have enough resources to clear the way so the Hunter tokens could take out Midori if he dares cast it. Better play Porky, though… I can use him to either delay Midori, clear the way to him, or replenish my hand size. Think I’ll stash the Arrest, though, to get Aven into my next cycle if it’s killed… and to have an extra tool to attack with.
Yeah, I got lucky on the timing there, but by spending my gold on lots of inexpensive units, I shortened my cycle and made it easier to get lucky on draws. GG!

Thoughts
Okay, now how do I want to play this? Argagarg is good at popping Illusions, so I don’t want to go straight for those. Instead, Elite Training seems like it could apply good pressure in this situation.
The building inspector is irritating. Next turn, I can hurry to tech 2 and get the cub for defense, invest a good bit on defense and save up for the tech 2, or I can try to go on the offensive. I’ll choose my response based on what they do.
Only immediate threats are Polymorph and Dinosize, and both are expensive enough that if he uses them to kill a Technician unit, that’s a value swing in my favor. I think it’s worth playing the Magistrate, but I’ll aim for Flagbearers to mitigate the potential damage from them going forward.
