Ironbark Treant
Playful Panda
Young Treant
Verdant Tree
Spore Shambler
Thoughts
The Brown starter looks pretty slow on pressure unless Zehaka comes out, and there’s no upgrade removal/capture outside of the Infestor, so I might be OK to play the Ironbark Treant now, and Rich Earth next turn.
Well, all the official ongoing spells either have the channelling keyword, or explicitly state to attach them to another unit. Neither’s on the cards’ text here, so I guess they just hang around like upgrades. Differences are that
They require a hero to play;
Tyrannosaurus Rex and Versatile Style can’t destroy them.
For this match, I’d still have Nature Reclaims and Potent Basilisk to deal with them, so it shouldn’t make much difference.
Honestly, I had not fully thought through that. I was drawing inspiration from the tweaks to the starter deck that @EricF suggested
I was only this morning when I was starting to mock up proxy cards and get them as close to originals in shape/style, etc (I’m drafting them in Excel, cuz I’m not tech savvy enough to use something like photoshop)…
When I noticed there were no other ongoing spells in the other starter decks.
Assimilate can gain control of an ongoing spell, but could also target them as upgrades (essentially stealing / removing creep tumor). Other ongoing spells for comparison: Harmony, Two Step, War Drums, Final Showdown, Spirit of the Panda, Dreamscape, Mind Control, Soul Stone, Bird’s Nest, Entangling VInes, & Vortross Emblem.
About half are channeling and half attach. None are “Tech 0”. So it is hard to determine comparable. You could say they attach to the casting hero (or queen) and essentially give them channeling. They essentially work like Upgrades, so their carp type could be changed.
Thematically, having Inject Larva as a spell allows a Queen to cast it, or Zagara, or another hero. Creep tumor could be a building or upgrade alternatively, but being a building makes it much more vulnerable.
I’m surprised to see Zagara here: they get a lot of health at higher levels, but right now it looks like Calamandra can easily deal with them before Corrosive Bile comes out to give her -1 runes. I like the idea of swarming Frogs to match the Zerklings, I can’t see any crowd control options for Brown. Tech I unit I’m probably most worried about is the Infested Argonaut, because of its stats.

Tower? T1? may be trade his SQL + midband Zag? Tower is better, i guess, also my table spam is stronger and faster - i have additional zerg each turn or 2/1 haste with maxband zag
Tower over Tech I, huh? In that case I’ll go for Galina for income, and Huntress for the sparkshot. Going Behind the Ferns for a stealthy kill on Zagara is a bit risky when I’m only drawing two cards after the reshuffle, and when bolyarich might have a Corrosive Bile in hand.

I guess bolyarich’s going for Zagara’s maxband frenzy aura here. I’m just not sure how much I care, if we’re both massing small units. I have Might of Leaf and Claw, he doesn’t, and Artisan Mantii play a similar role to Zagara’s ultimate, especially if he’s mostly sticking to Zurklings.

i guess there no another turns, i need to destroy T2 - he draws 2 cards after reshuffle
Rough, these cheap hasted 1/1s are a bit more dangerous than I thought. I can bring in more frogs and kill Zagara here, though, maybe I’ll have the advantage then.
