[Casual] AncientSlumber (Anarchy/Strength/Growth) vs FrozenStorm (Necro/Demon/Balance)

Thank you for playing with me @FrozenStorm  Pretty weak 1st turn for me unfortunately.

Did I read correctly that the person in your group piloting the deck I’m playing had the opportunity to select Finesse and balked at that? I suppose if you already had Miracle Grow it’s defensible to give this deck some upgrade removal from Midori (and Nightmare does struggle against Miracle Grow specifically), but still interesting choice (and why did they let you get that deck?? that’s the bigger question lol)

BTW how did the mono black turn out for you in your last draft tourney?

Anyways GL HF!

Total opposite of my balance test draw w/ dwardd here lol, plus I’m not neutered. Bad luck for AS. This deck does have the one advantage of Nature Reclaims, and Tiny B is pretty good Rook and Arg hate so that’s a plus as well. Plan will still be to pressure then Meta, and I think that’s pretty doable.

Haha, you read that correctly indeed! The person who darfted your deck claimed that he felt Nightmare was “cheap” and didn’t want to play it. It’s first time that someone in our group is playing Miracle Grow so I think no one really knew how strong it really is (I’m pretty sure I’m the only one who actually read the games here in the forum, but I did warn everyone that this is a strong combo when we started a few weeks back). I guess that after this draft, it will be a lot harder to get this deck :stuck_out_tongue:

We actually had to stop the mono black tourney in the middle since one of the players couldn’t join due to the Covid situation here. We were left with 4 players so we just decided to start a new draft in the meantime. We’ll continue it in a few weeks I guess, but so far I’m 3-2 (out of overall 8 games).

GL HF! although not sure you need luck with that opening ^^

Zane is a problem. I think I trade Haunt and Summon Skele, that leaves maxband Zane unable to kill Vandy. Puts me way down on cards but since when is that a thing for Vandy XD Tiny B should be useful here against Zane or Rook so I think he’s the buddy to go with.

I’m going to take a big gamble here, hope it works out!

My Thoughts

Well, not a ton of great options from here… could insta-max Garth for a baron, but that doesn’t seem wise. I think I’ll throw Midori out as a chump and tech up, that can’t be easily defeated with Midori in elite, I have good options next turn even if the tech2 and midori go down. The goal here is just to have answers to growth t2. Fairie Dragon gives me a way to kill Ancients or other goons, Basilisk can take out MoLaC. I can still threaten meta as well. solid overall

Yeah, I kindda ruined my hand, but I was hoping to avoid Vandy spells. We’ll see if it was worth it…

We can deal with just Rook by his lonesome. Imp to reduce chances of bad stuff, Tiny B to deter Rook. I’ll grab another Dragon to see if I can rune Tiny B into a killing machine, and… I suppose a Nether Drain? Sure, that seems reasonable to help threaten meta or fetch a mimic or something

EDIT: changed Mad Man attack to kill Garth, redrew hand

Mad Man can’t attack Tiny B I’m afraid. He has to ignore him patrolling, so he can attack Garth (who perhaps was a mistake to patrol)

I completely forgot about this, let me redo my turn then, sorry

@AncientSlumber What kind of tourney are you playing on the side? Is it with your friends on physical board or thru online?

It’s in-person bansa, they all share one Deluxe set so that’s why they draft

Man that sounds so fun! I wish I can join  where do you live @AncientSlumber ?

@FrozenStorm That is actually super interesting variant play. What if we group 4 players and have them draft from one Deluxe set and top two players advance. So let’s say there are 16 participants, then there will be 4 groups of 4 players for 1st round, then 2 groups for the 2nd round and then we have 1 final group to choose the winner. Just an idea for future experimental tourneys.

Oh another rule I would suggest is the banning similar to how heroes get banned in Dota. That way we see more combinations of heroes and suppress the use of named decks that hinder the balance.

Alright, fixed now - changed Mad Man attack to kill Garth, changed patrols, redrew hand

FrozenStorm already answered, but yeah, I play with 3-4 other friends with 1 deluxe set and I live in Israel

It could actually be interesting to do a draft tournament online. With our group we decided not to ban anything as people will tend to deny good picks from other players most of the time. However we did discuss it a lot, and it could be interesting. I wouldn’t ban specs outright, but maybe some strong combinations.

We have a pretty detailed spreadsheet for the draft with historic statistics for player results and spec results, it’s a lot of fun!

Wow! glad to see Codex being played all over the world. I thought it was only popular in UK. Codex is such a great game. I wish it gets more popularity. I’ve recently tried Keyforge and it was like meh. Just another MTG. So lame.

Codex is great, I wish for a digital version one day… I also didn’t like Keyforge, but to compare it to MTG, wow, that’s an insult lol. MTG is really great IMO, I still play on Arena sometimes.
