Tactical Fantasy Strike: Mystic Deadman Plays XCOM 2 featuring the Fantasy Strike Universe

Oh god I’m not sure if I can bring myself to watch. I feel like some terrible Doom is going to befall me :octopus:

I still need to watch the episodes fully but I know some good general tips

Optimally you only want to deal with one pod at a time, knowing this you should only move a unit really far if it’s the first move you make that turn, if you don’t encounter a pod early in the turn be careful with your line of sight, half cover that’s close with one pod during your turn is far better than full cover with two pods at the end of your turn!
A simple strategy I like to use is hunkering down the one unit that they can see and setting up a overwatch trap with the units they can’t.

Also remember to use your items to end encounters quickly, it’s no use saving them up!
Don’t stress, have fun!

Keep in mind that a lot of what you’re seeing is super early in the game’s release on console, so I don’t exactly have everything figured out to my liking at that point.

That being said, I’ve been doing another playthrough when I can’t record, and I’ve figured out some stuff that might help me in the recorded sessions.

(even if RNG likes to screw me with misses at 90% and give itself crit kills with no apparent flank)

The only problem I have with Overwatch traps is that usually I can work myself into better positions for hit and flank crits if I use one person to piss off a pod while the rest of the squad still has actions.

Also, if I can help it, once I get a medic Specialist, you’ll never see me use a Medkit. 4 GREMLIN charges are much better than 2 Medkits at close range.

Yeah, pretty much all my specialists, even the hacking specialized ones had at least that perk, and I’ve had moments where I was like “Man, combat protocol would be useful here…”

First off, I hope to have another episode up early tomorrow (Monday).

That being said, yeah, in my other playthrough I’m balancing out pretty much everyone on my A and B-Squads so that I have at least one of each class with most abilities in one tree or the other. That way, if I need more punch in my setup, I can swap a Scout Ranger for a Heavy Gunner Grenadier, or what have you. I didn’t want to fall into that kind of trap.

Watched the latest episode, I am proud of that hair and mustache choice.

@Plum If you still haven’t watched it by now, you really need to watch it now.

EDIT: And now that I realize he’s Scottish, he’s clearly went to the same school as the Demoman imo. Guess he’ll need an eyepatch when that becomes available.

I mean, I could patch him the next time I record.

Back from foreign lands and getting caught up. Just finished ep 4 and things are progressing nicely :stuck_out_tongue: Granted, I would have preferred to be a nice backline support class, but Polly ‘Critshot’ Plumington doesn’t do things the easy way! I’m almost afraid to watch ep 5 now…

If I had any comments to give on game play, it would be that I think you use dashes too much and spread the team too wide, but from watching your play style change over the first few eps, I think you’ve probably figured that out for yourself by now

Funnily enough, in my personal playthrough Plum ended up being my top Medic Specialist. Now, before the eyes of the world, she gets to punch things in the face with a sword.

Yeah, I can see where you’re coming from. The first 3 episodes were, like, day 1 and 2 gameplay, so I didn’t have as many tricks figured out as I probably should’ve before taking on a project like this.

Dashing is pretty much in response to the turn timers. Episode 6 is pretty much what happens when I don’t respect the timers the way I always had. I haven’t played in about a week (derned Overwatch Event being too derned fun…), but I should be returning to the front lines probably tomorrow.

Yeah that makes sense. Remember though that if you fail a mission due to the time limit, well that sucks and it’ll make life harder. If you complete the mission but lose two of your best troopers because you had to trigger multiple spawns while running toward the objective, that’s going to hurt a whole lot more. Maybe not in the late game when you have a deep enough bench to take risks, but early days the death of a well developed soldier can be devastating

So what do a popular soda brand and my LP have in common?

They’re both 7UP!

(This is the episode where @Plum is like, “I told ya so!”)

Looks like I lost more than an eye sadly.

What made me mad the most was that throughout my personal playthrough, I never got targeted by a Viper spit attack, so I didn’t even know that was a thing, or that it was AoE.

I haven’t touched the game in a couple of days, and I’m still mad over it.

Hey ya MD just wondering if you be uploading a new video soon been a while since the last one:smile:

Yeah, sorry about that. We’ve been having some work done on our house, so I haven’t had the time to record. I should hopefully get another episode out tomorrow (Monday the 21st) if things go well.
