Thoughts

Well, that’s a better starting hand. I could put down Midori for a Rampant Growth next turn, but I don’t think that’s going to accomplish much, and I could do with a Bird’s Nest to deal with Nullcraft, and help move Mox out of the way. They can also help with Void Stars, if we end up in a Strength/Future matchup again. Hopefully Bloodlust will give me the edge in that case. On the other hand, Midori allows me to try for a Circle of Life, in which case I can block Nullcraft with an Owl, and I can threaten Nature Reclaims on Battle Suits or Two Step. The latter could easily screw me over before I get going, so let’s do that, and consider a Gemscout Owl for teching.

Thoughts

Ugh, stupid starting mistake. Anyway, I was considering putting down Verdant Tree here, but it’s not worth it with the current board. Instead, I could kill the Fading Argonaut with Rampant Growth, or I could put down Playful Panda. The latter isn’t particularly useful against Fargo’s 3 health, so Rampant Growth it is. Teching in an Owl to make the Nullcraft respond to it. Teching in Nature Reclaims so early might prove to be a mistake, but I’d be in serious trouble if I didn’t, and Shadow called my bluff and brought in a Two Step. That leaves me without a combat Tech I unit, I’ll be hoping to bring in an Ironbark Treat or Wisps to block.

Also, I completely forgot Future isn’t in this game, which was silly. Not sure which way Shadow will be going.

… Lots of options for next turn, I can get the Owl going immediately and have 4 gold to bring in blockers or another Rampant Growth.

Thoughts

Shadow doesn’t have the gold to hit Tech II and bring in an Argonaut or a Stewardess, which were my main worries, so a Tiny Basilisk isn’t the immediate priority it normally is. What am I worried about? Definitely a Nimble Fencer. In that case I’d need two ground blockers, which is more cards than I can really afford. Skipping the Owl isn’t an option either, since then Nullcraft’s damage comes back into play. I think I’ll just have to take the risk.

Long-term, even without Future Shadow has some great air options – Now! on Cloud Sprites is pretty good – so I’m wondering whether I can afford to go Strength. I haven’t done a matrix in a while, so here goes.

Past: Cheap units that either hit hard to bring in other units. Nothing with more than 4 health, though, which makes them good fodder for unblocked flying Mimics, boosted Shoddy Gliders, and Whitestar Grapplers. Needs more effort if they’re in SQL, but that won’t happen for Rememberer, and the other two have quick fading. Second Chances doesn’t do much if I’m killing everything with lusted units, and I doubt Slow-Time Generator will appear. I think Balance is a bit worse here, because it relies on fliers to deal with both Rays and Rememberers, and Golgoth can rip through Basilisks.
Present: Ugh, I don’t like fighting Present. Balance can put Basilisks in front to lessen the effect of Tricycloids, Blood is probably just asking for my buildings to be wrecked, Strength can’t deal with Warp Gate Disciples or Immortals very easily.
Finesse: Another spec with very cheap options, plus some more expensive buffers. I think Balance units are too expensive to keep up. Blood could be an interesting response, clearing out Virtuosos with Crashbarrows, or Octopi later if I get ahead. Strength can get to Grounded Guides with Grapplers, but Maestros are more of a problem. However, Barbarbarians are cheap enough that hasting and boosting them could clear out Virtuosos pretty efficiently. I would need Birds or Circle of Life to deal with Cloud Sprites, though.

Hmm, no Tech II, interesting. I guess Shadow’s got similar thoughts on the spec counterplays, maybe? Both heroes suggests some sort of buffing strategy with River and Geiger, maybe only Tech II teched, Battle Suits suggests Present unless it was just for delaying. I guess I’ll hedge my bets with a Circle and Strength, I think that’s the best way for me to make use of the Bloodlust I’ve already teched.

If Shadow techs up this turn he has 3 gold leftover, so putting Young Treant in Lookout stops it getting bounced. I suspect he’s not teching so he can bounce the Treant and bring in a hero to benefit from Mox killing Midori, but we’ll see. Even if he dies, I think Midori did a decent amount, and I’ve got enough gold to put down a maxband Drakk and a Barbarbarian if I draw one.

… Not a bad hand. Hope I can play some of it, because my current units can’t attack.

Ugh, forgot the float. I don’t think it’s worth hasting the Barbarbarian against a patrol like that, so I’ll just block up for now. Hopefully there isn’t an Undo incoming, but Shadow can’t afford a Hyperion or a Tricycloid if he uses one, and he can only afford one if he doesn’t. Maybe this patrol is OK. The real problem will be if Two Step’s coming up.

… Missing Bloodlust is pretty rough, but if Drakk survives I can maxband and bring something in, maybe with Rampant Growth. If the Barbarbarian survives, this hand is prettty great for buffing him.

OK, that’s not ideal. I think I just need to fill my board with stuff to let Tower do its work. Teching in a Grappler so I can hopefully deal with wounded Hyperions on the backline. Circle of Life won’t kick in for a while, so I can go for Rook instead of Midori here, then if he survives he can go to midband and hit something in the back if needs be.

… Great burst hand if my Tech II stays standing. I can bring in a lusted Barbarbarian, then either midband Drakk or bring in the Grappler.

Thoughts

Having to trade the Barbarbarian is a pain, but hopefully I now have some breathing room to keep Drakk in play, or at least for him to be removed with Origin Story rather than combat. Still putting him in Technician, in case of another Tricycloid. Drawing cards won’t help much if he’s dead, anyway.

… Great hand if Drakk survives, if not I might be relying on a maxband Rook to stall.

normally I would be fine with that, but its after you drew cards which gives extra info (you have to commit the max drak before playing treant etc) @zhavier I believe rewind rules go up to last card drawn correct?
