Casual: CesareB [Necro]/Finesse/Future vs. witspur [Demon]/Finesse/Discipline

Uh-oh. It’s been swinging back and forth, but this is starting to look dire. I blame it on the first turn when I thought Poisonblade would apply his runes on the defense. It’s been downhill ever since. LOL

It didn’t help that I was thinking Sac The Weak was targetable. It’s not and the mind-parry fizzles.

@CesareB

This one is a wrap. I can’t come back from what you’ve got assembled.

@witspur GG dude. Very tense and interesting game. I fully expected to get turned back at some point. You’re probably right to concede though: even if you built some kind of board, I’ve drawn both Unphases this turn.

Also I think the big decision that cost you the game was patrolling Grave rather than using his rune to take out Garth. While yes that opens your base to omegacron, it makes it much more expensive for me to bring omega out. Plus since by that point I’m down to 10 base HP I probably have to attack Grave or the Monk with omega even if they’re not patrolling just to make sure I don’t immediately die.

Also if you have any interest in playing another match I’d be down. Though I think I’d want to replace Finesse with Feral.

@CesareB \

I’m good for another one. I don’t want to keep the same codex, but it’s the one I decided to take to the tourney (without trying it out beforehand), so I’m still trying to unlock it’s hidden potential. As for Grave, I was under the impression that you couldn’t use the rune on the same turn you acquired it. I don’t know why I thought that, but I did. I’m impressed with Future’s potential. I’ve never gone against it before. I’ve played Purple a little bit, but always focused on Present or Past.

I’ll plug in Feral and start us off.

@CesareB

GLHF!

I don’t love summoning Garth against his powerful combat heroes but alas it’s the only way I can afford STW and it’s such a solid economic advantage to get rid of Jandra with it that I just can’t pass it up. Depending on how he answers I MAY even be able to get a graveyard up and running next turn.

"

@CesareB This probably wouldn’t matter for the last game, but for future reference - Unphase doesn’t work on Omegacron or on Vir’s Mech, because they’re both untargetable.

See this is why I didn’t want to summon Garth. It lets him play a conservative line like that and still be in a position where a good card draw (any 2 of Nimble Fencer, Dereriorate, and StW) still gets him a hero kill. Hence my choice to tech BC and Allies. I really wanna just go all-in on tokens this game and see if it’s practical.

He can almost certainly clear my patrol if he desperately wants to, but I’m dubious that really accomplishes much for him. He can’t clear my BC unless he’s willing to maxband Vandy or go even lower on cards via deteriorate. Maxbanding her gives me a nice beefy Imp to hit back with though. I’m betting he chooses to just rebuild hand size and tech up: starlet suggests he’s gonna pursue Finesse. I’m thinking I may go Necromancy in that case and just play around Discord. I really wanna make Corpse Catapult work haha. If he goes disc again I think I’ll need to go with Future instead so I don’t just lose to YLD.

I’m worried I’m painting myself into a corner here. He hit deteriorate with his Imp which sucks as it would’ve let me trade much more cheaply. I could just tech up myself but since I don’t have any tech 2s in my deck yet that doesn’t seem super useful. I’m tempted to build a HH but I think more money is more important. As usual, if I can take out Vandy, I probably should, so here we are.

River dying means I can avoid the threat of Discord for at least a turn, which could, at some point, totally wreck this silly plan I’ve got going. Honestly the fact that he was willing to put her out front suggests he hasn’t teched it or at least isn’t thinking about it. Finesse backed up by Graveyard does sound irritating but there’s not much we can do right now other than keep to the board swarm plan and hope to pull the catapults and/or death rites before he can start repeatedly summoning free, hasty starlets.
