Casual: CesareB [Necro]/Finesse/Future vs. witspur [Demon]/Finesse/Discipline

Death Rites only requires that the unit that is being destroyed is the “lowest tech” remaining. I get to pick the order within the same tech.

Oh right Sac the Weak. Should’ve known. Oh well you gotta try right? Kind of annoying that both his heroes have sparkshot but nothing really to be done about it. If he has either deteriorate or nimble fencer her can clear my patrol; with both (or NF and starlet) he can also take out either Cal or the Catapult, probably going toward the CC. Alternately he just maxes Grave and takes something out with the rune. Stupid Grave. Actually decent chance he doesn’t have anything given his low card count and how bloated his deck has gotten by skipping workers. I’m gonna throw in a Doom Grasp to at least have a response to a hero play.

Um what? I have frogs, not skeletons, and I don’t have one in elite. Did you mean to deteriorate squad lead? And then attack lookout/sparkshot technician?

Sorry man, the screen must have been showing a different turn when I typed that up. My bad. I’ll deteriorate the Squad Leader Frog and Grave will attack the Lookout and sparkshot. I’ll rewrite my turn to reflect the changes.

Exactly what you said. I’ll rewrite my turn. I looked at the catapult card and by the wording I’m assuming that it gets Runes put on it on my turn as well as yours.

Yes it should get runes regardless of when my other units die. So that one now has 3 runes.

Thoughts

I had a lot of different lines I considered before coming to the realization that my big concern, given that I’m breaking his tech 1 and hence don’t have to worry about his hasty ladies, was a maxband Grave getting sword rune value. And that stealthy Calamandra completely bypasses that particular issue. The rest of the turn is just about trying to hold off the rest of his board. Luckily Garth gives me easy access to a 4/4 which is an awkward stat line for him to deal with in squad lead. The only real problem I foresee is if he has another Grounded Guide but even in that case I don’t think he can get to my backline. Fingers crossed for Feral Strike.

"

Oh also just noticed you didn’t tech last turn despite not yet being at 10 workers.

I’ll put the tech cards into my discard pile. Looks like I failed to account for a Nimble Fencer that you killed on Turn 6. It should have been moved to the discard pile after you killed it. The discards were shuffled on Turn 7 and it would have been available in the Deck on Turn 8. The other Fencer was already sitting in the Deck when I used Dark Pact on Turn 8 (I was hoping for a hasted unit but didn’t get one). Didn’t help that I cut my chance in half because of a mistake. Anyway, I’m going to put that into the Deck where it belongs as well as put the 2 Tech cards into the Discard pile.

I’m throwing in the towel on this one. You’ve been able to answer every move that I make. I’m retiring this codex too. It looked good on paper (to me) but it doesn’t have the firepower to go up against Necro. Garth and his minions are a tough out.

Ah well GG then. :grinning: I did have quite a few lucky draws that I think saved me. Getting Death Rites when I did was particularly convenient. I can definitely see what could be interesting about this deck: getting an early Metamorphosis on Grave is scary. I was kind of surprised you never went for the Discord against my weenies though.

I’ve gone the discord route, and it’s just not viable in the long term. It’s nice for a turn when the board is clear, then next turn, Garth summons a skeleton, maybe dips into discard for a bad mofo. That Lich spell really laid it on me too. Like I said, every time I almost scratched to an advantage, you were able to turn it around on me. It was close on a few occasions, like when I finally had my Maestro engine up and ready to take off, you were able to clean house (just barely) with StW and Death Rites, with just enough money to pull it all off. I understand if you need a break, or we can cue it up again. I am def changing stripes though. I guess you were just a couple of days late for entering the tourney. You would have done well, I think. Given some folks a run for their money at least. There’s another one coming up in a month or so, I believe. So I need to figure out a good codex to take. I’m not really feeling Necro, everybody is on that bandwagon. I may try a mono build.

I’d be happy to start another one. I think I’ll try this codex with the purple starter this time, if that’s ok with you. I guess it’s my turn to start but I’ll hold off until I know what you’re playing.

It has been a busy week. This weekend looks to be more of the same. But I’m ready to start if you are. I was considering Mono Purple myself. And to be honest, the idea of a mirror match is intriguing. But for now, I think I’ll try my hand at Mono Blue.

@CesareB

I’m in no hurry. GLHF :grinning:

Playing against blue is so weird and I also think my codex is particularly weak to certain branches of blue shenanigans. Getting Fargo out there now to discourage Jail. Leaving some float to allow for Building Inspector.

Surprised/glad to see Bigby here. Since I don’t have to worry about Mirror silliness or Oni just overpowering me I’m comfortable just teching up and getting a hero in play. It looks to be a rather slow matchup so we’ll see what I can get out of Vir. I wouldn’t normally worker Nullcraft but Aven counters it well.
