Thoughts

Interesting match-up, looks like we both want to go for Peace unit spam. Frozen’s specs aren’t so good at Tech I, outside of Zane, so I could also try to get something going a little earlier.

Porkhand Magistrate can be killed efficiently with Zane, even in Squad Leader, and Frozen could still tech up. I think I have three good options:

  1. Midband Argagarg standing behind his Wisp, threatening to pop the Aven.
  2. Argagarg standing behind his Wisp and Spectral Aven. Aven goes in Squad Leader, so Frozen’s Aven can’t kill the Wisp, and let Zane + Traffic Director kill Argagarg. Frozen could also pop my Aven with Arrest, but he’d be skipping Tech I, so I doubt it.
  3. With Spectral Aven in Squad Leader / Lookout, I could have a different hero behind. If Frozen techs up, best he can do is play Zane, or Manufactured Truth if he skips a worker. Zane can allow a trade with Onimaru or Elite Drakk, but that’s not worth it for Frozen.

The main question is whether I want Argagarg, to threaten an Aven pop, or Oni/Drakk, to threaten other sources of damage. I’d really like to get rid of that Aven. Oni and Drakk both have cheap spells to get rid of it (Boot Camp and Bloodlust), but they take up a tech choice, and I have to draw them. I think I go with Argagarg: he doesn’t scale up mass weenies as quickly as Drakk, and can’t bring in as many tokens as Onimaru for Ancients, but I do still get the Water Elemental and the threat of Stampede.

Hanging onto Jail over Porkhand Magistrate: it slows down Peace unit spam a little bit, if not Sergeant runes, and could also be nice if Frozen goes for the large Tech II/III units in the other specs.

Was hoping to win the 50/50 no aven for Charnel, Arg as an answer likely to pop with a midband. Guess I’ll go for resist and Oni to hit back, GPT and Cadet for Peace Engine is the play I think. Could do Boot Camp to pop the Aven but hopefully I can deal with it another way, we’ll see I spose

Thoughts

Hmm, Building Inspector. Do I want to sacrifice the Aven to afford Water Elemental this turn? I think so, I need something that can stand up to Gunpoint Taxman, and possibly Zane. Zane can’t do too much if Frozen also techs up, at least, even if Frozen steals gold off of a shove.

He could also bring Oni back out for Elite Training, which would at least take out my units, but I think Argagarg would be safe. Oh, maybe not with the sparkshot.

Patrollers have 6 health, attackers have 5 attack, 6 more needed for Argagarg kill. Frozen has 9 gold, 4 left if he wants to tech up.

  • Elite Training costs 4 gold, gives up to 1 (armour-pierce) + 2 (attack bonus) + 2 (sparkshot) attack. Not enough.
  • Zane costs up to 5 gold after gold share and steal, gives up to 6 attack if he shoves SQL. Technically enough, but I don’t think Frozen could split the damage up properly. If I put the Elemental in SQL, he’d have 4+3+1+1 against 2+2+5, which I don’t think can be done. If I put the Cadet there, it’s against 1+3+5, which he can manage, but he would lose all of his current units.
  • Arrest costs 4-5 gold, gives up to 4 health for Arresting SQL Elemental, plus another 2 if cast by Zane. That’s just enough to take out Argagarg, losing either Zane or his 1-cost units in the process. However, he’d only be left with 4 gold before worker, so couldn’t tech up. Does he still want to do it? Possibly: he’d have a Gunpoint Taxman and a Level 3 Zane on the board, plus 3 gold more, against my disabled Water Elemental. The threat of maxband Zane might be enough to dissuade me from going for Garrison, in his eyes. If I put Overeager Cadet in SQL, Arrest + Zane gives 5 attack, which isn’t quite enough.
  • Surprise Attack gives 8 attack, which is clearly enough. It lets Frozen keep most of his material, too. I’ll just need to hope he hasn’t taken this.

Allowing a maxband Zane kill on Argagarg is far more dangerous than allowing a Zane + Arrest kill, so the Elemental goes in front. Overeager Cadet goes in Elite: if Gunpoint Taxman kills it after Zane shares Scavenger gold for the Elemental, then it at least has to trade.

Tech-wise, I definitely want at least one Garrison. I’m leaning towards two: if I can quickly flood the board, then Argagarg’s or Drakk’s ultimates should let me snowball quickly without the need for Sergeants. I can also tech in Crash Bombers for more cheap flood.

That’s pretty good. Do I want to attack? No point just killing the Cadet, but I could get that Taxman killed off, and make it more difficult for Frozen to steal my float. He’s likely to have a Garrison in hand anyway, so giving him a card probably won’t do much.

This looks pretty good actually, Drakk could be a problem (why not tech lab blood there?), KotC gives me a 50/50 for an extra rune and maybe even 2 extra, that’d mean I could worker instead of MTruth to kill the cadet and WE. Could do 2 KotC but I think I’ll stack a detonate so I have it right away next turn

Okay if I murder patrol + mid zane for the scav, tech KotC and a Vystari, then go Garrison + TD, I’m guaranteed to draw down. That’ll give me 5 DS runes to work with, I can double tech break, then worry about detonate for the garrisons later (shouldn’t have gone detonate lol I don’t need it, DS woulda been better to have here. Oh well

GG WP! I realized too late detonate was not a needed tech, I needed to have more faith in the peace engine. Gl next round!

Its expensive and not what you want to use Zane for! Doesn’t leave gold for dealing with the board presence and that’s especially a problem against stampede threat
