If I crash a 1 gem with a Crash gem and my opponent counter with a Crash gem (crashes a 1 gem), can I then react on his counter crash with my Rocket Punch?
Any time gems are would be sent to your pile, you may use a purple shield. If their counter crash would not cause any gems to be sent to you, you cannot react.
