For those curious, the idea behind this deck is that Temporal Distortion has a lot of options on cheap units, with 2g Administrators <ā€“> Virtuosos for comes-into-play effects, and Insurance Agent <ā€“> Other Insurance Agent <ā€“>Leaping Lizard at tech II, not to mention Grounded Guide joining the Hyperion/Triskelion train.

Letā€™s see how an Orpal opening goes against Finesse. Shame Iā€™ve got Sensei in Monk in my first hand. Perse could kill Orpal here if he skips Tech I, plays River, leaves only River on the board, and goes down on cards. I donā€™t know if thatā€™s a good tradeoff.

Thoughts

I can skip Tech I and go down a card to kill Orpal, leaving me with Brother + Messenger + Lv. 3 Hero vs Sensei, but not sure if thatā€™s worth it. Geiger gives me a lot of resilience vs. -1/-1 runes anyway, right?

Discord kills most of White starter outright, and works well against Rambasa Twinsā€¦ but I donā€™t have a lot of ā€œpunchā€ factor to take advantage of it yet. Still probably better to threaten Discord/Two-Step, than Present/Law magic turn 3? Maybe? Even though I built Tech I around Temporal Distortion?

Feeling that this build isnā€™t particularly viable as P1, tbh.

Thoughts

I considered various approaches for using Hook or midbanding Orpal to either kill the Tenderfoot or move him to kill the Brother, then either playing the Flagbearer or midbanding Orpal to sacrifice the Sensei and put a - rune on the surviving unit. However, they all put me down on cards and/or left Orpal easily open to a single Nimber Fencer. The safer way to neutralise one of Persephoneā€™s units is simply to boost Orpal and attack the Tenderfoot. Itā€™ll survive, but have 0 attack while not harming Orpal, and if I can keep Orpal alive itā€™ll make for easy maxband fodder. Iā€™ll do that. Adding Sickness to slow things down if Orpal survives, and Crypt Crawler for cheap defence if he doesnā€™t. Giving Orpal a level in case of a Tax Collector.

Ouch. Can I risk going for Tech II here? A Two Step would flatten it plus one more damage for the Sensei would flatten it, I think thatā€™s easier than using Riverā€™s midband. Either way I think Perse has to go down on cards again. Iā€™ve got Snapback and Sickness in hand next turn, so maybe nowā€™s the best time to at least pay for it. Iā€™ll just tech one Tier II unit to hedge my bets. Iā€™m not sure what else I want, so a Martial Mastery seems a good way to fish for Perseā€™s main spec plan. Workering Smoker, since Iā€™m aiming for Abomination. Iā€™m not sure whether to kill the Tenderfoot here or not: he might be non-patrolling as bait to lessen my patrol, but keeping him alive makes it easier to rip through with Two Step. Iā€™m going to kill it anyway, and try to make Perse go down on cards to get the Tech II kill.

Thoughts

Disease is basically a value gameplan w/ added weenie hate. I think Insurance Agent can outvalue it, unless and until double Abomination shows up. Lawbringer Gryphon is maybe my win condition, but it gets kind of countered by Crypt Crawler? It certainly has answers to Present endgame techs (Gorgon > Hyperion, Abom/Ghoul > Immortal/Warp Gate Disciple). Censorship Council could be good for me here.

Definitely should have patrolled Tenderfoot last turn, donā€™t know if I just forgot or forgot you had an attacker left.

I just assumed you were trying to bait the kill, to be honest.

No Aged Sensei in hand makes early Orpal aggression a bit limp, with Grave + Smoker with a Hook next turn could be pretty good. Missing the Graveyard in the Black starter, though, I might switch next game.
