I’m a bit lost about the next tournament. Should we do another X series, should we directly start the winter one, should we wait and not directly rush to the next event? If somebody volunteers to organize what to do next, I would not mind hosting the next event as well (but I wouldn’t mind either to just participate as a player)
But independent on what we do, I think a registration period of at least 2-3 weeks is required.
@dwarddd let me answer here:
That’s a nice idea for the next X tournament! This also was before my time here and I’d love to play such a tournament. The only bummer is that so far there was seemingly no real interest in another tournament. But maybe this changes once this thread receives some attention
I’m up for another tournament, though quite agnostic on X vs winter at this point. Happy for others to chime in.
Drafting is an interesting idea, that I’m happy to give a try if we go with an X tournament. Was there a specific format of picks/bans that was deemed to work well?
All I know is that there was a large draft tournament way back:
Maybe one of the back then participants that are still around can voice an opinion on how it felt and whether this is something worthy of repeating @FrozenStorm@charnel_mouse@Bryce_The_Rice@James
It was fun, although asynchronous drafting did mean that matches took a little longer.
If you go through the draft tournament’s thread, you’ll find Bryce asking whether there should be ban picks, because he suspected the specs considered to be strongest would be picked much more than everything else. Looking at the stats I gave at the end, he wasn’t wrong, especially for the starter deck pick.
It was an interesting wrinkle. Looking at some past games, folks did want to mix it up and make it “fun”, but I think that was more to do with the players preference than “optimal strategy”.
Could be fun to try again but idk that it was a great time for all
FWIW @EricF took 2nd in that tourney with these selections:
I’m suggesting: let’s do this!
I’ll create a new tournament thread copy-pasting the rules from 2019 (plus our balance patch) with a three week sign-up phase by Monday, unless there is a discussion going on about what to do as a next tournament.
