I kinda get the feeling I should still tech Assimilate around turn 4 in this game, just in case, but we’ll see what he techs. For now, I know I need to keep him off of Rook so birds don’t get out of hand. ASG is the deck I generally struggle most against; it’s a strong deck with a lot of options that work towards a common goal. We’ll see how we do. I might try JuggerMox again, as I’m not sure I’ll win a buff race with Ancients

Need to hedge a little on Juggermox with Rook already out, he can kill Oni pretty easy if I don’t have a blocker to lay in front. Ideally I want next turn to be Plexus + Oni + 1 Boot Camp + OC I think that gives me 2 bodies in front of Oni + backline Mox gaining ground. We’ll see what he does

Damn, he had the perfect hand to respond. I can’t safely bring Oni out now, giving up free levels to that Rook puts me in a very precarious situation. Battle Suits + Nullcraft gets me a kill on that bombaster though, and combined with OC in SQL puts him in a bad spot for countering where playing birds makes his ground game liable to getting Rook killed. I’ll take that over Juggermoxing for now, especially if I can load the deck for Garrison.

Amusingly, I could break his tech 1 here with mad man and rambaster in hand. That probably doesnt get me much though. He didn’t give me the card draw, so I am going for the tower to give the boulder more oomph. Rook might die here if he blows money on spells, but I should be able to protect my tech 2 next turn. And he went dow nicely on cards this turn, which should work for me. If rook lives, I get nest and Ogre maybe. Or midband Rook. either seems decent.

Arright, if he’s going to play defensive I think I just take the free opening to tech up and roll with it, right? Grabbing a second Garrison (increase my odds of drawing it on the turn here) and KotC (I have spiral and Tinkerer, might as well take advantage. Worst case Scenario I pull a DS from the discard with Garth?

Well, indeed this is a shit draw… Glad I put tinkerer in techn at least, but I’mma have to get creative with this next turn. Max Vir for a mech is an option as well I suppose.

Hm, interesting, still no birds. What did he tech along with Boulder that he didn’t want to play? I guess I was threatening a DS fetch so you don’t want to leave Rook on 2HP, but Birds would cover the nullcraft from evading… Strange, I guess he’s respecting Forgotten Fighter (or he teched something other than birds?) Either way, pretty likely I’m about to see a very beefy Ancient, let’s hope it’s a whiff draw for him too otherwise this is going to kinda suck

Damn dude, no 0-cost unit? this is getting ruff

I can guarantee a draw-down of my discard pile, so I have 100% access to whatever I tech. The caveat, though, is that I have to use all my gold to get that guarantee. Lucky for me, I have the oft-overlooked Promise of Payment I can utilize. Unphase would be GREAT to combo with that, however it is ineffective against a tower (it also targets, so can’t use it on my big bad mech). If I draw well enough, though, a DS could potentially get me enough runes to kill that Ancient with Nullcraft (but I’d have to draw perfectly, topdecking both PoP and DS with 1 card fudge factor via Vir midband)

Well I was not so fortunate (nearly bottom-decked, damn), but got 1 rune, so I guess I just kill as much of his shit as possible and hope it’s enough to overrun him. Sharks, Birds, Arg, all could spell bad news for me, but at least I’m not totally done, and he’ll have a thick deck to redraw into. We’ll see if I can survive. Vir’s ulti would be fun to try Promise Payment on, but being fucking Forecast 3 means I can’t cheat the double turn in quick enough for it to really be useful

It occurs to me, a bit late, that I should have put detonate in sooner. I have way too many targets I need to kill, Thunderclap here would have been amazing :frowning:

Ok, most pressing concern, Drill Sergeant, probably. Nether drain seems almost guaranteed, so the rook wall definitely won’t last. But, I can make nether drain cost 2, which means 4 of his 5 gold. And I don’t think he has any 1 or 0 cost units left as options. On the bright side, I can block his nullcraft shenanigans, to a degree. Even better, his gold supply is extremely low, and all his free card draw is in play. that PoP is back in hand, so Vir is still kinda a problem. Oh, he could maybe play a unit and nether drain due to PoP, but i guess we shall see. And that tinkerer means one of his knights arrives next turn

Hmm playing empty?

[details=My Thoughts]
Well, I’m going balls to the wall. This sucks because I’m IOU-ing myself down to nothing next turn, but it does mean I get commanding control of the board. He’s left with nothing but Birds and 3 cards, Arg is a pain but at least he can’t get buffs off him with the BA down. Hopefully I can break his tech 2 next turn and effectively lock him off coming back in the game!

I think you got Promise of Payment right. As I understand the way it’s worded you cast the spell, note that the next card you play will cost 0 this turn (and that you’ll have to pay the cost next turn), discard the spell, and then you can play any card in your hand.

Promise does get reshuffled, as you completely resolve it, then your next thing is reduced.

I will conceded here, I stumbled a bit, and I don’t see a recovery here.

GG!

GG WP! That’s my first competitive tech of Promise of Payment, but it worked out. Frustrating to start a turn out with so little gold, and your all-in last turn to get so much of my ground forces killed definitely had me worried, but once I saw I could take out Zane and BA, I figured combined with your low hand that would give me enough to punch down the tech 2 the following turn, unless you had another BA in hand (I figured you probably had BA, MoLaC or Zane spells), but Zane seemed unassuming enough back there that I bet on him being the one you were counting on surviving.

Insane game, I expect we’ll see each other again later @zhavier and I hope it’s just as nuts as this was!

Note, With all that IOU, a single detonate would have won me the game.

I also wonder how differently that might have gone by killing Vir instead of DS. you maybe could ahve gotten some runes, but not also with nether drain.

I feel i vastly underestimated his threat.

That’s why I had to kill Zane, I wasn’t going to lose to a missing worker XD (plus, yknow, sharks are scary)

Yeah much to my surprise, I think killing Vir on turn 6 with that hasty bird probably would have done me in. I should have recognized how badly I needed him and kept the Nullcraft back on defense on turn 5. I also probably should have tried a little harder to get more offense going early. Perhaps mox didn’t end up being worth it, and thinking I’d have enough safety from Red starter and Rook to Boot Camp him was foolish in hindsight.
