Thoughts
Stuff like Stilcher’s Creation sounds cool, but in the face of potential Tiny Basilisks, and with Green having no early haste, I think my best early bet is Exploding Goats or Priests.
- Goats would potentially make me go down on cards, so I think I’d want Taric (midband) or Neshama (Legions Revealed) for card draw. Taric is interesting, because then I could use Story Trap to get rid of cards that are often doubled up, like Tiny Basilisk or Blooming Ancient. Neshama’s ability lets me put him in front of the Goats, as an unassisted Basilisk can’t kill him.
- Priests have a good healing ability, but they also have the gold-standard stats: 2g for 3/3. I think I like Catherine with these because of her topband ability, and Disrupt Narrative seems really nice, given how limited Green’s card draw is.
Break is my only way to deal with Might of Leaf and Claw, and temporarily at that, although it can also slow down rune accumulation, as well as stopping the activated effect. I’ll want to go for Catherine later.
Here are my cards this turn:
- Doomed Peasant, 1g: 1/1, summon a 0/1 token on death. Like a weak Panda. Not too bothered about it here, although it could be nice to feed Ritual of Ketter’s Rising in a future game.
- Fantassin, 2g: 2/2, anti-air. Nice, but not too useful against early Green.
- Underequipped Soldier, 2g: 2/2, gets a +1 attack or +1 heath rune on arrival, I pay 1g when it dies. Nice stats for its cost, I just need to be careful about spending all my gold before it dies.
- Arcadian Double, 2g: exhaust an allied Tech 0/I unit, get a copy with haste and ephemeral, but no other abilities. Sort of like Manufactured Truth that can only target allies, but without needing another unit out to make the copy. Cool, but not relevant this turn.
- Pivot, 0g: heal 1 on an allied unit, damage an enemy unit by 1 if you do. Cool, but not something for turn 1.
I think Underequipped Soldier + hero is the obvious choice here. I’ll go with Catherine, I like the idea of going for Goats but Priests’ stats make them a bit safer. I might need her later against Growth II anyway. The Priests should give me a solid board to shoot for Tech II off of.
