interesting split, the option to go maxband Oni early or to just attack looks nice (even though the Art of war obviously is nothing I can hope to win a game with against Garth). I’m absolutely not sure what to do against Frozen’s (token) spam options, but even with all this time to prepare for this match, all I have to say about it is: nothing I can do about that now, I still have no match plan that I am happy with… The other two P1 games Frozen had with this deck he played imp+gy+haunt on his first two turns, let’s see whether he has a different split now… His favorite tech 1 choice seems to be hound, against which Oni provides at least some counter, so I’ll definitely go for him… also spore shambler might actually be a good card in the early game, let’s see.

Hmm actually I’m against Green, PBR kinda rules at that, I can force a pretty favorable trade by doing for her, so let’s pivot to that instead, not chance the Rampant Growth takedown of graveyard (which TBH would be a fine trade to make but I wanna have some tempo here)

yeah, that Imp has to die. going maxband oni is tempting, but probably leads me nowhere. Shambler or Tech Up is the question in my eyes. I really prefer teching spells only, but signalling it transparently sucks. Did I mention I hate deteriorate? Otherwise it would be so awesome to just put MP in SL and neglect him the card draw…
Now let’s hope no Bone Collectors are heading my way, then my tech choice will look really stupid.

I expect this’ll be Peace engine? We’ll see, great to get Hound on the Techn, now’s the time for graveyard. Macciatus and Tiger sound good, hopefully they stay buried on the RS.

FML cmon Macciatus??? Rough. Probably Garth + skele + tech up next turn, maybe Det + graveyard replay hound.

If I’m not mistaken that should be three, right?

I would have bet very large sums on you having chosen spectral hound + bone collector as your first tech choices. You can’t believe how happy I am about having been wrong about that one…

awesome! I placed my bet right, even better than expected! So the basis is set, now I have to hope for being fast enough to get my fliers online against the horrors that the expected token spam holds for me, after that I might get extremely lucky to get repeated tech breaks with boot camped fliers, which still is a very long road to take. But so far my match plan works even better than expected. Especially with him being down on cards, which reduces the risk of an early double lich’s bargain to zero: only one card of the new cycle in his next hand, and he obviously either way wouldn’t have casted both as he most of the times prefers to build tech 2 first and without garth on the table there’s not enough gold to do all of that in one turn. So it comes to a worst case of one LB on a more or less empty board which is way less frightening that what I feared how the board would look after the first few turns. :man_dancing:

Damn I’m shocked at the callout and double draw of that move, that’s quite a hard read to go double boot camp on… I’ll have to think on that.

And yes copypasta error I’m on 3 hand 4 deck

Tbh it’s been less a callout then more an act of desperation because I was horribly afraid of your early pressure with BC+hound followed by double LBs and was hoping for a sneaky Garth kill, ideally with destroying a hound in it’s wake. Also as P2 and with deteriorate at your disposal there is just no unit in my codex that trades well against hounds and BCs.
What I saw in your tournament games and your warm up ones left me with the impression that of all my possible opponents your deck has by far the best matchup against mine and I was desperate for unconventional play in the hope of surprising you. But not before having the option of almost clearing your board t2 came it to mind that such a line might actually work.
About the luck of having both when drawing five out of a deck of ten with only three of these offering additional card draw we don’t have to argue.
Btw: you destroyed my hope of going spore shambler instead of tech 1 by playing that damn PBR. This one had been my initial plan against hounds…

I’m just shockingly unclear what your plan would have been against anything other than illusions… Lich’s Bargain would have had you in really bad shape! Alas, swung back and knocked it out, it’s gonna be a climb for me now

My Thoughts

Well at least it’s balance? I’ll see if I can’t still salvage a tech 3 plan from this mess. Can’t believe he even went one Boot Camp this early!!!?! The sheer disrespect of Lich’s Bargain and Bone Collector, epic move

As I tried to say before: had you gone for an even earlier token spam or double BC, I would have just been plain dead. From your earlier games I was pretty sure that as P1 you would not immediately go for double LBs, but everything else was just all in (Bansa, you hear me? ). I have no good strategy in my codex against token spam and was just hoping to delay you as long as possible in order to get my hasters/fliers online, hoping to be fast enough to deal with your horrors. Before your turn 2 my delay plan had almost been maxband Oni t2 with double tech the art of war… Against a codex with Garth AND free speech (!) which hopefully shows the confidence I was having against your deck: None!
Was it a subjectively good strategy? Hell yeah! First because I am a sick lucky bastard in this situation. Second because it shows every interested observer, that I’m willing to leave huge gaps on my flanks in order to do some crazy stuff (like my turn 2 against bomber), in the hope of giving others the feeling of not being able to predict my strategies. Was it an objectively good strategy? Hell no! It’s probably going to lose in way more situations than it’s going to win. But as my self confidence for most of these lost causes was nonexistent to start with, it didn’t feel like sacrificing many scenarios where I could stand better with a different strategy. At the same time it significantly boosts my chances in some other scenarios, which is why I chose this crazy path. (Kind of similar to what Moby did against me, even though he obviously was less lucky)

Just going down the usual path and trying tiny b/GPT or alike is just one deteriorate away from losing my unit to your hounds/BCs without any value at all. Even without det, it’s still bad trades which result in me losing some turns later to your token spam engine. :man_shrugging:

I want to keep some sparkshots and be safe from det/stw killing a SL soldier, hence offering up Oni for an expensive trade (unless he has nether drain/Doom grasp).
Unless he techs up and clears my board with Doom grasp + StW, I like the situation I’m in right now. Probably even then, as it would require a worker skip and my hand is full and his is a bit stretched.

Thanks for the wishes. And well yeah, the main advantage of boot camp being the increased cycle speed and the possibility of getting a flier with 5 attack without reducing the hand size definitely was part of the equation for me going this route

It’s not bad late if I’m getting nasty w/ Lich’s Bargain to expose my base to more direct damage, I’m still baffled that was the first cycle tech choice but my fault for not playing heads up against it and trying to get cute
