I’ll try a different strategy this time around… Art of War + Free Speech can be a powerful lockdown, but it can be quite difficult to maintain both consistently… and while Law offers a fair amount of deck manipulation to assist, getting 3 heroes out before Origin Story is rather unrealistic. Laying down the Law seems like a particularly bad strategy against Past. Maybe best to just go with cheap Illusion units and replay them if they get bounced. For now, though, I’ll need a hero to take point… Nullcraft + Battle Suits could efficiently down one, but at least he can’t also play a hero and collect free levels. If he doesn’t have Nullcraft, it’s better to play the Inspector, but if he does, it’s better to go with the Aven. A tough call… but the Aven seems to offer the best worst-case scenario, so I’ll go with that. As for choice of hero… I’m kinda tempted to try Quince, even though it’s generally hard to make good use of him this early because of the gold investment required… but if he can pull off a hero kill, I’ll at least have some remaining value in the free Mirror Illusion, and if Quince survives, I’ll have the option to midband and copy the Aven for a significant air threat. Patrolling Aven as Elite to protect against Forgotten Fighter. Stewardesses are still a significant threat, but the only way to stop that is to lockdown his Tech I. It’s unlikely I can consistently do that with damage, and experience has taught me that if I spam it to block units, I’ll just be overpowered by tech 0 units, heroes, and spells, due to my opponent having more disposable gold. Best to just try to get as much value out of my tech 0 units before they disappear, I suppose.

So he did have both… glad I played cautiously there. Now, the Aven can kill either Nullcraft or FArgo, but will likely be killed by a Stewardess next turn, which means I either build a Tower to deal with the Nullcraft or Elite the Director to ward off FArgo. Do I need a different add-on? Not really… and the Tower could provide a lot of long-term value and protection against Future’s invisibility threats. I’ll go with that. Against Stewardesses, Traffic Director is my most valuable tech 0 unit, so I’ll SQL him. If Nullcraft takes out Mirror Illusion, I’ll be happy with the value trade, and if not, I can potentially use the Mirror to transform into a higher tech level unit.

I’m nervous about tech II Present units, but I need my Flagbearers to protect my Hounds right now. If I can just get my Gryphons in play, everything should work out. Hmm… I think it’s worth investing the $1 to check for Origin Story before paying to maxband Quince. No Origin Story in hand, but Hyperion gives card draw… it’s a bit of a gamble, but worth the risk, I think. Thankfully, he won’t have enough gold to play both of them and reshuffle in teched cards. Hmm… looks like his only targeting options are FF and hero maxbands… I doubt he’ll go for a maxband because that would preclude a Hyperion, so I’ll boost the other Flagbearer’s attack.
