No, they only have the ability as long as a maestro is alive on the board and in my control.
Do note I have two of them on the board though, and I would be very surprised if you were able to kill both
Also note it isn’t just fencers that can have this ability, but Starlets and Blademasters as well (and Tenderfoot, though that isn’t in my deck. It’s granted to all my Virtuoso. You would need your own maestro for your virtuosos to have the ability)

I think turn 3 tech of YLD and turn 4 play was your critical miss. Instead of Monk + Tech2, I would have gone Rambasa + Hero’s Hall, and gone Reversal or Fencer over the YLD. That would have kept your foot harder on the gas, which by going for so many levels on Grave so early you’d kind of committed to.
That way, Grave is safer to my Virtuoso play, you keep your sword rune for a high-value tech 2 unit, and can play for more board control.
Birds + Two Step would have been a good early line also, if you’d just traded grave away earlier.
Not at all bad, it’s an above-average Tech2 unit. 3-cost flier that can one-shot tech buildings is well worth its salt. Against purple starter its less good (since I have a tech 0 flier in Nullcraft that can block it AND avoid a lot of removal spells), you would have been better served by Strength T2 I think (Doubling Barbs with Two-Step is hard for me to deal with, basically requires me to Prynn maxband)
You were on a pretty aggro line and needed to stay heavier on the board faster. YLD was too slow to set up against the tech 2 spike I was playing for.
