@FrozenStorm I hope you enjoy our first sanctioned game, I’m really looking forward to it. Good luck and have fun.
Well well, the model told me P1 white has a high win probability (when neglecting player’s skill) in this matchup. After reading a ton of these games in the forum here, I’m not that sure about that. Feels more like a MU on razor’s edge.
And what a coincidence all P1 so far had the aged sensei in their opening. I must confess: me too.
Great split with AS now and smoker & monk next turn. Obviously I would have preferred hook & SA next turn, but that would have been asking for too much. Now let’s hope for no Bogre…

My Thoughts
Yck first hand, I think I just float a ton and hope to score a Rook kill with Zane. I’m not holding any of the cards necessary to eat patrol next turn, but I guess zango won’t know that eh?
Gonna be rough, I think I go Bloodlust (helps pick off weanies on 1hp) and GPT for birds / body. Tower should help keep attackers down, no doubt we’ll get a safe attacking drop. I think probably turtle for Anarchy T3 is the play here but we’ll see if a pivot to Blood makes sense

Thoughts
I would have been way more afraid of 3 floating instead of this tower. Let’s see whether I will change my opinion on that somewhen in the future.
Again a good trade for me, two cards and two gold for two cards and four gold. Let’s continue rolling. The hook is in the firm believe that I can maxband Setsuki somewhen soon, but even if not: the card less for both of us hurts him probably more than it does me and it also guarantees that his next two turns only see two teched cards, which I deem highly unlikey to contain cards like sharks or kidnapping, which I value highly in my own setup phase. I even prefer that over keeping my own cycle under better control by shuffling now.

My Thoughts
Wisely Zango heals Rook there, low on cards now though. I suspect it’ll probably be maxband beefy Rook coming. Not super great to deal with but hopefully I can overcome. No easy answer though. Crashbarrows + Desperation probably best, gonna go Sharks + Kidnapping for general deck help and we’ll see how it goes!
This is brutal. I don’t have easy Rook answers. I think my best option is Barrows, just try to pin my ears back and go full offense. I don’t feel confident I’ll keep a tech 2 healthy even though… Just feels pretty hopeless. Drawing into a fat deck with no real recourse to pivot. Let’s hope no Snapback, taking out Drakk, Zane and my tech 2 would be pretty devastating

Thoughts
Kill Drakk with Rook and hook dog away from technician or break tech 2?
Oh how I wish I had a Martial Mastery…
And how to patrol? A 3/3 SPartner in SL or a buffed grave that can easily be traded by Zane? If he has sharks, he can trade Grave with Zane and deal 8 damage to whatever he wants, but i think that’s fine for me with a 93% probability of drawing the earthquake next turn
I’ll float two, because I’d love to spend two gold on him going down on cards even further
Post draw: double earthquake! Let’s see whether he steals anything. If not this should be lethal next turn.
After A TON of research on this matchup, it didn’t seem like the 70% win probability that the model is predicting. But yes, red has no good answers to heros, hence this game with investing everything in Rook. Earthquake with birds is brutal in itself, but a maxband Rook for backup is a big pain in itself for red.
I think it looks completely different, if you actually had had something to put into the patrol zone t1
Yeah you hit all the salient analysis, Rook is tough for red (esp at Maxband), I had a bad first split and you had a perfect one. White P1 gets pretty easy board control and no Brogre for me + AS → Monk + Smoker for you meant I had little hope to retake any board position
Off the top of my head, a Red answer for heroes is Flame Arrow. High-health heroes like Rook are still a pain if Crashbarrows can’t reach them. Good job, zango.
Yea non-rook heroes can be dealt with via Flame Arrow pretty well, especially the non-5hp ones. Sharks also aren’t bad or Crashbarrow. Nothing as strong as Origin Story, Snapback, Nether Drain, Doom Grasp, Free Speech etc though. I would have had no opportunity to Flame Arrow ftw here
