Yuck. I guess I’ll open with Treant and Prospector, to guarantee I have something alive next turn. No Balance for bolyarich means only I have early access to deathtouch, maybe I can open with Gemscout Owl + Tiny Basilisk for income and Calamandra control, then go for a quick Circle while there are no Gorgons to punish it.

I’m not fond of throwing Young Treant away, but I might need the Spore Shambler to get my runes online first, and Disease gives other options for keeping up in card economy.

Thoughts

bolyarich has a strong enough board that I need to block up now instead of putting Rich Earth down, but they’ve delayed Tech I. That leaves me in a bind: playing a hero is asking to be facing a maxband Calamandra, but not playing a hero risks losing my Tech I, at least if I exhaust the Prospector. I think I just need to leave the Prospector on defence, and hope my Tech I stands. Even if a Ferocity comes out, my Tech I should be safe.

No Tech I from bolyarich, so he must be gunning for Calamandra’s spells here. Probably Ferocity. I’d like to get Carrion Curse to punish their hand, but at the moment I think I need double Tiny Basilisk while Calamandra can’t be protected with a Tech I. It can trade with a summoned Tiger instead, if needs be. Or do I go for a Plague Spitter? Hmm. No, TB is better if a Tiger comes out. TB + Galina is also an option that’s affordable on Turn 3, but I’m worried about my hand size. Double Tiny Basilisk it is. Eventual plan is still Disease II with Circle to bring in Ancients, getting a MoLaC to fire isn’t currently looking likely.

Hmm, still no Tech I, plus a ton of float. I guess bolyarich’s going for a Tiger next turn? Or Murkwood Allies? Either way leaves enough gold for a Ferocity too. I’m wishing I’d had the gold for a Carrion Curse, but drawing a Tiny Basilisk from the Technician should at least give me an answer if it’s the latter.

I was planning to tech in a Plague Lab or two, for some crowd control to compliment the Tiny Basilisks. That’s great for mass Tech 0 units, but a Predator Tiger could give me serious problems, as it could easily hit some workers. I’ll have two Tiny Basilisks by the end of next turn, though, so I might be OK, as long as bolyarich doesn’t slap down Ferocity two turns in a row. Do I want two Plague Labs, or Plague Lab and Gorgon? Maybe Plague Lab + Carrion Curse, so I don’t get caught it with a Tech II kill, I’m risking a tech building loss this coming turn as it is. Or Sickness, so I can rune Calamandra and keep a hero out without them getting immediately sniped? Or Plague Lab + Plague Spitter, if I’m worried about a Tech II break? I think I’d rather have the Sickness, then work around not being able to rune a unit too next turn if I draw both and don’t get a Scavenger bonus.

Plan for later techs: second Plague Lab, Gorgon, maybe Abomination, Circle of Life for Ancient Treant. Maybe MoLaC later if I get time, Nature Reclaims if bolyarich goes for Growth.
