Flipped heads, nice XD free Oni kill, I’ll tech a vines to clear a path to Newsie so I can still put birds out. I think better to put smoker down and leave Rook vulnerable to Mtruth + Arrest + Hound as that’s a super unlikely draw and not awful for me as a trade.

Great - Safe Attacking + Birds. Love that. My favourite. And there’s an alarming amount of stuff in play over there now. But I built that Tower, so I got that goin for me!

I can do a bit of card draw here with the garrison, but it’s not really enough to shutdown Frozen’s options - 1 drops will just be grist for the mill, and I don’t think the Garrison is safe from Rook stomping through.

Also, skipping a worker and floating $3? That’s ringing some alarm bells. I think this is already in the weeds, but we’ll see what to reply to this turn is…

11 DS runes… I should be happy with that, but it’s just really tough to know where to put them. Sparring Partner + Sensei’s Advice make it so hard to tell where to defend.

I did kill TD, I actually killed all your would-be attackers.

Everything else looks fine, though I am most confused why you are not giving any runes to Newsman.

Ah, ok, sorry about that. Well, TD is easy enough to retcon, it would have started in my discard pile so the reshuffle wouldn’t be affected. You just get to keep Fox Primus. I’ll edit my turn above to reflect.

I figured Newsy would be a somewhat low priority target, I mean, I wasn’t sure if you’d teched FDS, and there’s the Peace engine to dismantle. And with the myriad ways the birds could potentially be buffed, I’d have had to commit a few runes to keep him safe. And if I’d have done that, it would make it easier to come through the patrol. That was the thinking anyways.

I obviously know what I teched and didn’t tech, but I would think of it this way:

  1. I maxed Sets and cleared all attackers, that’s a pretty clear sign I teched at least one as I’d have a really good chance of getting it off
  2. An FDS + Earthquake combo can nearly destroy your entire base with Primus and Smoker also on the board (one ninja dies to tower, 3 ninjas ping buildings, bird and primus hit base, that’s an easy 14 damage)
  3. Even if I don’t have it, what’s the worst I can do after getting through a beefy Tax Collector? 4 runes on Newsman (and not on the OC or DSs) mean even with Sparring + Sensei’s Advice, I can’t kill it with just birds, and it’s still tough for me to do much against the other units.

So plus side to giving runes to Newsie is:

  • If I do have FDS, I can’t get near lethal damage

Minus side is:

  • If I don’t have it, I can only get a marginal improvement on trading the other units

It seems like a bit of a slam dunk to me, but I also am not playing for you :wink: Just perhaps something to reconsider momentarily before I take my turn.

Newsman (and just the sheer volume of runes generated there) make this challenging… Also having no blockers to lay down… Going to give Monk and Rook runes, try to take everything off the board that I can, and try to keep my heroes safe. If I get to earthquake next turn, that’s probably GG. If I get a free speech to the face (likely), I’ll just have to block as best I can…


Well I’ll concede there - GG! Bit of a brain fade letting Oni get killed T2. Was never really able to challenge for board dominance - and even 11 Drill Sergeant runes was not enough to swing things.

Thanks! I had teched it thinking it was a targeted spell to deal with Spectral Hound / Flagbearer tbh lol, forgot that it was not, but did know other way it would be effective at clearing weanie peace engine patrollers.

11 was a lot of runes! Did not expect that. I was holding the FDS so I still think the Newsman stack was the right call over spreading the love, but idk might have been tight either way!
