Thoughts

The Newsman could keep a hero alive for a turn, but keeping him alive the following turn is unlikely, as I have to assume some other unit will enter play next turn and Dark Pact will allow access to both Deteriorate and Sacrifice the Weak the following turn, which could shred through any defense I could mount. I’ll take some base damage now (hopefully mitigated by the Tech I building) to stockpile gold; maybe I can manage a swing with Judgment Day later.

Thoughts

A 2 hero Metamorphosis rush could land as early as turn 4, so I need to either tech Free Speech or Jurisdiction. Jurisdiction might work with this gold-hoarding strategy, but I expect to need that gold for other things. Without more opposing units, Judgment Day wouldn’t do much for me, and MIrror Illusions might be able to buy enough time.

Bad timing for deteriorate (last hand obviously would have gotten another base damage) but that’s fine. Teching in Shadow Blade to help bust patrol, and Crypt Crawler for anti-Aven countermeasures (plus sparkshot might be helpful if he goes for Quince + mirrors or max Oni

Thieving Imp + Tech 2 will probably be the play, though perhaps we’ll level Vandy instead to better set up Meta for turn 6

Thoughts

I don’t need to worry about Cursed Ghouls popping Illusions yet, so empowered Mirrors are still a viable defense. It’s tempting to take a worker in place of the Newsman copy, but I’m afraid I’ll need all the patrollers I can get next turn, and I don’t want to fall behind on hand size. Since I’m burning through my gold reserves, I’ll aim for Mind Control as a swing instead of Judgment Day. It doesn’t have Judgment Day’s clearing power, but against this divided approach between hero investment and unit deployment, it might be a strong enough swing to keep me in the game.
