Youngbuck and I are back for another series of Black vs Blue. Neither of us is a great Blue player (we have yet to get a win as Blue Player 2), but we are determined to improve and find winning formulas in this matchup.

Early pressure, plan to go HH and Tech 1 next turn, along with Haunt, may have to delay HH if I need Imp to block or to lvl up Vandy. Usually in this matchup, I plan to tech Dark Pact and Bone Collector first, as it generates a ton of board control and cycles me up to my turn 3 techs quickly. The goal against blue is to keep his board fairly clear and threaten to Metamorphosis early on, as he has no good way to deal with multiple invisible heroes.

Hm good play by him, the mirror protects from StW… If only I’d drawn my Dark Pact or my deteriorate as well. Well no matter, I have to play defense a little bit and I can’t safely put my Bone Collector down, so I’ll bleed his cards a little and bide my time until I get my Dark Pact card advantage rolling.

Well, in case he did draw and hang onto Mind Control (and because I would have to skip a worker to do it), I will keep my Crow off the board until I can take care of Quince. I am back to scary board control levels, he will be hard pressed to dig out of this hole he put himself in skipping a worker and going card bankrupt.

It still feels very unfair to blue in this matchup: I always can make an even or in some cases ridiculously good trade, I always have card or gold advantage, and I always am able to keep very strong board presence. He’s made some questionable choices (probably needs to patrol more in resource slots, especially that hound in lookout would have been better off in technician) and Quince is tough to work with against Black (2g for a total chump of a blocker is expensive), but what can he really do different? I do think a Tower is a must-have, and I like the Scribes to stave off early pressure (I may try Tax Collector in my turn with Blue next game here, I don’t think I’ve ever teched it). But Shadow Blade + Skeleton is super easy to come up with early for Black, and cripples you as blue so hard… Very tough matchup

Yep, of course he drew Deteriorate turn 2 :wink: I know Quince is getting killed but I don’t have much else of a choice, I need the TD for blocking and the Mirror to even have a prayer of surviving. I think we’ll probably go for BK and Insurance Agent next round of teching? or perhaps we try base racing with Spy and Air Hammer? Maybe we try JJ + Elite Training? That could potentially kill a metamorphed hero, and maybe I can stave him off long enough with Free Speech? The problem is it only gives me 2 turns of relief, and only costs him 6 gold to re-threaten metamorph! Maybe if I can get a Censorship Council down as well… I think I need to play pretty patiently though, not rush for teching too hard…

All I can do is continue trying to trade favorably, and hopefully set up behind scribes and a censorship council. If I can do that, I should hopefully be able to threaten either The Art of War or Lawbringer Gryphon around turn 7 / 8, either of which can really shut down metamorphosis. The key will be killing Garth right before I set that up, so that I don’t have to worry about Doom Grasp.

As usual, it feels like a losing fight, but I’m going to keep trying 'til I win this matchup!
