[Casual] charnel_mouse [Discipline]/Disease/Law vs dwarddd Purple, [Finesse]/Feral/Present

Personally id say i prefer the black starter in general but thats without trying to think about how it connects with the rest of your deck

Black does seem less prone to awkward splits, but I’ve not played White much yet. Basically, you swap out cards good for early hero aggression in exchange for Graveyard to bring back companions for your heroes, and Deteriorate makes holding off Present with an Abomination pretty feasible. Graveyard + Tax Collector can also being very annoying if the opponent wants to float, because once the Collector’s dead you can steal it at any time.

Thoughts

Savior Monk in Squad Leader should be able to trade well here. Teching Sickness to deal with Nimble Fencers, if they attack and try to hide behind the Older Brother. Plague Spitter should be good on defence, Crypt Crawler’s cheaper, but its web ability is only good on offense, and I don’t think I need the sparkshot next turn.

Thoughts

There’s probably a big turn incoming with that much float, I’m guessing Two Step. That would bring the Older Brother to 3 attack, which is enough to get through the Fox Primus if I block with her. I think it’s therefore best to kill him now to mitigate Two Step, even though it gives dwarddd the scavenger bonus. Do I want to block with Fox Primus? Midband Orpal? Or just tech up? Putting the Primus down lets me get another round of teched cards in the deck before I reshuffle, so I can stuff it with Tech II cards and try to get some insurance going, I’ll do that.

Teching Twins for the insurance money, Gorgon to efficiently kill off virtusos if they’re backed by Grounded Guides. I think dwarddd made an error here by not attacking. Getting - runes in Calamandra sucks, but it would have left me with less good targets for insurance, plus they’ve got lots of hard-hitting hasted damage in Finesse, so keeping the board small favours them. Maybe they were waiting to draw into Ferocity?

Teching Gryphons can wait until next turn, for now I want some more card draw and trading options.

Wiping the Guides out last turn was nice, but I’m going to pay for the card cost now. If my deck size wasn’t so big at the moment, or I wasn’t waiting for a Gryphon, I’d seriously consider using Orpal’s midband to sacrifice the Gorgon, to draw two cards and hope for something good. I just need to be on defence until I can get a Gryphon out, then hopefully it’s plain sailing.

Thoughts

I just need a turn to play a Lawbringer Gryphon, but dwarddd knows it. Feral II doesn’t help him here, so I can only assume he’s going for Moss Ancient to level buildings with Squirrels, and with Calamandra at maxband there’s nothing I can do to stop them arriving. That further incentivises teching in Abominations, since they are also my best chance to stand up to a Blademaster. Spreading Plague would also be nice for those heroes, but I need to get that Blademaster out of the picture. For now, 4 damage seems like an important number, so I’m getting runes on everything else to only deal 3 damage if the other Grounded Guide doesn’t show. Hopefully that’s enough to make a hard choice between destroying the Tech Lab again, or killing Grave to stop the sword.
