Interesting option here. I could do a standard opening of Oni + 1-drop. Or I could just go Jail, pass. Jail shuts off max-Drakk, makes Nullcraft awkward, trades a card now for a card later, and with OE Cadets in play on both sides, that’s significant.
On the other hand, it cedes hero initiative, although with Basilisks coming down, that could be a good thing. Newsman will name “2” eventually, probably a priority on turn 3 or 4 to lock out various shenanagins.

And between FA and Mox, purple starter has enough ability to stall an Oni + 1 start that I think I’ll do the Jail opening. Jail -> Birds = defense lol

Thoughts

This is a little risky, as he could potentially get a protected building instructor down, but I really think hasted nullcraft + onimaru should be able to kill a building instructor before I build my T1 next turn. Jail is pretty good against the purple starter.

All tournament I’ve been trying to go for the Garrison gameplan, but I haven’t even really used it for all but one game, so I think this one I’ll probably lean a little heavier on Present or Blood T2.

Grab Basilisk and Taxman, as usual.

Patrol options for a small blocker are SQL (so, I pay 1 gold to keep Jail for a turn), or Tech (I lose Jail, but it takes a 2-cost unit with it, so I’m -2 gold for +1 card). And he has no blocker unless he delays Tech I (Zane for 5, worker, and I guess that means I actually want to patrol in Scav. The third option is to play Spectral Aven, be 100% to lose Jail, and then he could have a good defender. Scavenger BI it is!
Alternatively, I could patrol a Bluecoat instead. That would leave me with 6 gold +1 gold/card next turn, prevent a blocker + Tech I play. Not enough gold in that scenario for a Zane + 2-drop, making it basically identical to patrolling BI in SQL, unless I want to pay 1 gold to draw a card. I think keeping the Jail is fine, as it will leverage my Basilisk well.

I guess he can take out Oni with a zane sacrifice, but its just a 1 for 1 trade, so smeh. He has almost no way to take out Brave Knights without combat damage (zane maxband? maximum anarchy?), so they seem like a pretty solid choice here. I don’t plan on doing the typical soldier/garrison plan since hes got a lot of hate for that in his spec. I think present t2 will be the way to go with immortals and hyperions.

Skipped a worker, but isn’t really going down on cards d/t Knights. However, my Basilisks will trade well, and he has only a 1/4 chance of having one of his new Techs in hand ATM. Almost gauranteed to be able to summon Plasmodium next turn, if desired. He could skip a worker to break my Tech II, but that seems pretty bad for him. Most likely play is Geiger (5), Time Spiral (4), Plasmoid kills patroller, BK kills Jail, Worker (3), BK (0). And then patrol with 2x Knight again, which keeps me off of any real aggression (though I do get to Monkey Geiger, Zane a BK, and trade Taxman for the other BK, leaving only the plasmoid to harras me.

The alternative line is Geiger (5), Battle Suits (3), Kill Patroller, Time Spiral (2), Worker (1), float 1? - and I think I would actually prefer to see Battle Suits over a re-played Knight? I don’t have BL vulnerability ATM, so this line looks good (and he’s more likely to have pitched Battle Suits and have it in deck than Time Spiral)

Question For @Penatronic

Is there a reason you didn’t just bring him to Level 6 and float 1 gold, since killing Zane gives you 2 free levels, and Oni maxes at lvl8?
