To win at the game of pool, a player needs to sink their balls into the pockets. But if you approach the game with the mentality of a six-year-old, this goal runs counter to the "true spirit of the game" (ie to hit the balls as hard as you can in order to watch them ricochet around the table).

Analogously, to win the game of Codex you need to reduce your opponent's base to 0-HP --but to my eyes the true spirit of the game is in the unit compositions that can be built up and combinations that can be brought together.
