ahh, good point, ill use garth’s maxband to bring out star crossed starlet instead of mantis then. ill make the edit and redraw my hand in a second. my base will be at 11 instead of 15.

Hang on, was about to post my next turn but this game is so tight I triple checked your econ state, and I noticed one more quick thing @codexnewb: you drew technician, but I didn’t kill your technician in his resource slot. That skeleton was “mine” when it died.

Can you resolve that lack of card easily with your turn (i.e. just one less card, redraw hand), or does it need further changing?

oh nice catch. okay, so it wont affect the turn. i can just redraw the hand for 1 less. allow me to update and ill post back.

My Thoughts

I see two lines I could go here:

  1. Drain Garth, Max Mine to summon another Bamstamper, kill his Garth w/ my ready Bamstamper (maybe bring Jaina out for levels?) Leaves me with good patrol and him with little board, next turn I can max Jaina + Ember Sparks his base for 8, vulnerable to very little he could bring out (polymorph, though I highly doubt he teched it)
  2. Trade Bamstamper into Hoodie, max my Garth (no drain) to fetch Firebird, patrol in scav, worker. This would leave a next-turn play of Max Drakk + Firebird for the lethal 10 damage to his base, barring a mantis (and even still, drawing an Ember Sparks would be lethal). However, this plan would be vulnerable to a slightly more likely Doom Grasp (though still unlikely) or Ancient in hand (which he’s likely to have and would likely give him enough to break my tech 2 and cut off the second firebird)

I feel like 1 is the safe, attrition-y option, but I also feel like skipping worker and giving him a card isn’t great… Still, I’m going for that as I think it keeps me most in control of the board.

Other tech? I’m going kidnapping, as it makes for the best patrol-busting backup plan to straight burn. Not sure if Flame Arrow would be a better choice, certainly Burning Volley would be a gutsier one. I have to tech 2 more next turn so I’ll see how jaina fares here.

Patrolling Bamstamper ahead of Garth in technician, just in case I bottom-deck the Ember Sparks and need to skeleton sac to draw it (max jaina + ember sparks is only 7 of my 9 gold, so I’ll have enough to skeleton and worker regardless).

Of course I bottom deck it lol. Bottoming HE or Firebird (or even Imp) would have been ideal (ember sparks + graveyard would’ve been cool), but w/e.


wouldnt second bamstamper only knock off the armor and do 2 damage to HE?

My Thoughts

Glad I chose wisely, this is all but locked up. I actually don’t even need Ember Sparks (I can’t make it to lethal anyway) and can save the guaranteed draw for next turn while totally locking down the board. Why he is making a worker and not patrolling in Techn is beyond me, as he needs Doom Grasp badly (it’s his only out at this point really, and even then it’d be a stall tactic more than an actual answer). Teching a Flame Arrow and a Hotter Fire on the off chance he does hit Doom Grasp, so there’s even more direct damage lurking in the deck. But the goal will be patrol HE and Skeleton to keep the ground game from coming, and break the tech 2 to prevent a Mantis or anything game warping from entering.

GG WP @codexnewb ! That was a seriously exciting mid-game, your Flagbearer lay to read my Kidnapping / block deteriorate was unexpected and threw a great wrinkle into things!

It was difficult for me playing a safer, grindy Fire tech 2 game (I always want hasty firebird!) but I learned my lesson early on in the tourney that Hasty Firebird is a greedy strat that needs a lot to line up for it to succeed.

I was surprised to see no Doom Grasp for you, as late-game that might have bought you the space to bring the BA + LB game online (and I had no great answer to LB + Arg hording in my deck; Discord is so perfect for that, my risky firebird or the mildly effective Ember Sparks were all I could hope would be enough)

@zhavier this was a spectator special, I hope others got a chance to check it out!

yeah. once you teched fire, i just didnt think i could maintain the LB base damage cost. one of those rare times when the base damage actually weighed my decision. given i ended up at 10 there, it seemed reasonable.

since i’ve kidnapped many a bone collector, i was just trying to avoid that most of the game. in the end, i probably should have just allowed you to do so, because it’s a heavy gold cost.

im realizing more and more that i wish i had anarchy and red starter instead of neutral. maybe next tournament.

Totally agree on Anarchy + Growth, surprised my suggestion & thus the ultimate tournament ban was Strength + Growth instead of Red Starter or Anarchy + Growth (Anarchy / Necro / Growth almost sounds BETTER than Anarchy / Strength / Growth, really shocked we haven’t seen it in a tourney and it might be worth seeing in CAWS which is better ^_^)

I like that this restricted tourney is likely to influence some deck choices into the meta for a standard tourney. :smiley:
