:geiger: :psfist: :pschip: :jaina: - I know it’s dirty trick to pick Geiger vs Jaina, but Carpe is good enough and this is IYL - it’s all about Counter Picks after all :wink:
Great games, mate. Mirror matches were rly tense and fun.

I still can’t believe I dodged while we were both at chip health, and forgot about your Embers.

How many participants are making it out of pools?

A bit off the top of my head, but traditionally we’ve given the top-placed player a bye, and usually had ~12, 3 of whom went to playoffs (so, roughly the top 25%, although w/ play-ins, it was top 5 that had possible contender slots).

So, some possible options:

  1. Top 4, no bye. 1-4 each need to win 2 games to take the title.
  2. Top 3, 1st place gets a bye. 1 needs 1 win, 2-3 need 2 wins.
  3. Top 4, 1st gets a bye, 2nd gets in, 3+4 have a play-ins match. 1 needs 1 win, 2 needs 2 wins, 3-4 need 3 wins.
  4. Top 6, 1+2 get byes, 3-6 play-in. 1-2 need 2 wins each, 3-6 need 3 wins each.

We currently have 12 non-resigned players. My inclination is to go w/ option 4. It’s a large fraction of the pool contenders that would still have a shot at the title, but everyone but 1+2 is at the disadvantage of needing to win another game. I’m open to reasonable arguments about why I’m wrong, though.

cpat 3-1 Nopethebard
:bbb: > :rook: - Went for the hard counterpick. My first Range was lost immediately from a mixup normal, but quickly got a second from knockdown J into a mixup normal of my own. I hit a K on the first turn of Range, and cruised from there without relinquishing Range for the remainder of the game.
:bbb: > :jaina: - Got away with murder on this one. A few small hits traded back and forth before I got hit with K and successfully bluffed. The next turn, I bet on a Jaina throw and landed Headbutt, hitting for a respectable 28 damage. I immediately mashed a second Headbutt and beat out a 3-attack for 40 damage and the game.
:bbb: < :setsuki: - Absolutely decimated in the early-game. Lost every single mixup until I was at 6 HP. Went for AA into Overdrive into K-throw and attained Range with only 38 HP to go through. Unfortunately, I lost it almost immediately on a block/block. From here, I powered up for Piston Hurricane and went for Overdrive into K-throw again, but lost the game for it.
:troq: > :setsuki: - Troq was big and smashed well. I think Setsuki ended up with a bit of an awkward starting hand and I was able to take advantage with multiple throws. Drew a natural valutrap with 9-throw (unfortunately lost combat with it) into topdeck 3-throw as well. I then successfully pulled off a timely Blue Burst to refill my hand after an early-game barrage, went for a second 9-throw, putting Setsuki at 1 HP, and went for the likely checkmate of War Stomp into Up Hawk to close out the set.

GGs.

All kinda blurs together, but some tight matches, especially the second one! Did not respect the 0-speed Q enough though.

@ArthurWynne has missed their last 4 matches, at least, so I’ve removed them from the tournament.

I haven’t received a scheduling PM in weeks. Are we supposed to organized ourselves? Sorry, I ahven’t been following the thread closely.

No. We’ve had a lot of dropouts, and I’ve been a bit irregular about sending the match messages. That said, I just sent a batch.

EDIT: Looking at challonge: you’ve played everyone who’s still active in the tournament.

Now that we’re at the end of the tournament, I got off my butt and set auto-TO up to run hourly, so scheduling messages should go out more regularly, now.

:quince::pschip::psfist::valerie: I went very low on cards, that made me very predictible
:gwen::psfist::pschip::valerie: very close one
:gwen::pschip::psfist::valerie: a perfect ! :slight_smile:
:degrey: :psfist::pschip::valerie: I went low on cards and attacked a lot, even without being able to chain into real combos

ggs, thx for the games ! :smiley: see you in the playoffs :slight_smile:

Sorry all, I have to drop. Thanks for showing me a good time, though! See you all around.

Ok, we’ve got one match left (@Castanietzsche and @mastrblastr), which has some potential impact on play-ins. I’ve given them a 24 hour timer before I call it, though.

The suspense! :open_mouth:

They keep making slow progress towards scheduling, and I’d rather not default this one if I don’t have to. Should have a resolution by tomorrow, one way or another.

:zane: < :troq: got completely stomped here, nothing interesting
:onimaru: < :troq: i think i won one combat. I had a really bad starting hand granted, but that still doesn’t account for how I was just downloaded this game it felt.
:geiger: > :troq: comfortable win scary moment when i got triple warstomped from 5 cards, banked he didn’t have the 4th, kept AA as my last 2 cards, hit it to get him to single digits, and won via topdeck from there.
:geiger: > :zane: downbacked a ton, got time stop up, hit with 4 aces, melted zane lifebar from full.
:geiger: > :menelker: went all in with an attack heavy hand, went down to no-card. with menel at 20, and let the topdeck get me through again.

GGs!

It does feel like a mixed bag to qualify almost purely due to the number of participants who dropped. :sweat_smile:
