Shadow Blade discards before he draws from his Technician dying, according to an official ruling from sharpobject. That ruling isn’t in the Database yet, but there was a long discussion about it in the Rules Questions thread if you want to look that up.
That only applies if you shadow blade the technician. In this case I draw before.
I am also annoyed I thought I had changed my patrol to put Newsman behind and Cadet in tech, but oh well.
And standard practice is for the random discard number to come from you.
I’ll post my turn later

GG, I will concede here. I’ll post a turn one later.
GG. I read more on the black v blue matchup discussion, and I can see how it can be a difficult one in the early turns, although I think you played well.
Would you like to continue playing the black/finesse vs blue or would you like to switch it up? I usually enjoy black the most but I have others I like playing too.
I’d like another stab at this matchup, but really I’m just trying to play a bunch of mono blue to get a better sense of it, so you can play whatever, though I need to know if you change for how I would play my opening hand.
That sounds good. I’ll continue to play the same Codex then to give you the practice. I expect you will find this or similar matchups often anyways.

I would have liked to play Imp instead, but then he would get a free kill with Onimaru. I elected to go for Jandra so that he will have a harder time taking her down.

Thoughts
I can’t deteriorate Traffic Director, which is annoying. I think Jandra + Javelineer is my best play here. I’ll have 3 big scary units ready to attack next turn if he doesn’t push tempo. After Tech I and Worker I’ll have 2 left over, and a lot of options. I can pay 2 to sacrifice the weak, build hero hall, or level Vandy to mid. Sacrifice the Weak shuts down his Building Inspector, but it seems like a bad trade. 3 gold for 1 gold? Heroes’ Hall will add some pressure after next turn, but does not benefit me immediately unless I tech spells for Garth (but Doom Grasp -is- pretty expensive this early, and I’m not sure about Lich Bargain after my base just got hit). On the other hand, Leveling Vandy to mid all but ensures I don’t lose her (barring Manufactured Truth Shenanigans), and it will put immense pressure on him. If I also play Haunt, I will have 4 units that can attack next turn, and a total of 3/3/1/1 attack, up to 4/5/1/1 if I level Vandy first. That is a LOT of damage. I think that’s the play I’m going to go for, and since I’m opting to level Vandy, I think I’m going to tech in some spells too. Reputable Newsman sucks, if he draws it, but if it happens, it happens. I don’t like workering Graveyard, but I need to save the other two spells, they’re too useful.

Thoughts
I forgot about the Heroes’ Hall allowing him to get levels on Quince. Still, I actually have more units on the board right now, so I don’t think it’s that bad. I can kill his Mirror, meaning the only thing that can do damage next turn is his Quince. Max band mind control Quince may become a problem, but I’m not sure I want to tech Doom Grasp right now. Difficult tech decisions at the moment. I want another Bone Collector eventually, but I think this turn I’m going to opt for Skeletal Lord + Nether Grasp and tech the second Collector later. I would LOVE to tech Lich’s Bargain to keep up the aggression, but I’m afraid of Justice Juggernaut. I can’t go that route unless I know what he’s teching. I’m going Tech II mostly because I think it will be fun, but also because he’s gone Heroes’ Hall, and Wight is pretty strong against any hero shenanigans.

Thoughts
Free Speech was a very very timely move. Without it, I would have had a lot of options to clear his board. It feels bad to worker Shadow Blade, but really want to get Skeletal Archery in play. Luckily I can get another Shadow Blade almost whenever I want. The other reason I’m getting rid of my spells here is because I’m afraid that I could get caught in a perpetual Silence / Newsman loop and I’d rather have more units. It’s possible that he opts to Mind Control the Bone Collector to suicide it into Vandy for the kill. That would suck, but what can you do?
Stokes
Mind Control does not give the Bone collector haste and hence he would not be able to attack with it this turn.
