[MMM1] Warm-up: Blue (Dreamfire) vs. Purple (holytispon)

I have to say, I thought you had the upper hand for most of that game. The Hive really had me worried, but in hindsight, I think you’re right that it’s a difficult card to get good value out of. Facing a tower, it becomes a real gold sink. Kind of makes me want to try it in a codex with Safe Attacking…

I’m not really sure what you could’ve done differently here. Maybe build tech 3 of your own on T7, instead of renewing Stingers? That turn was the only respite you had from Injunction, so it might have been worth it. More generally, the advantages of Hive (against Injunction and Mirrors) also seem to apply to Tricycloid, so maybe Present is the way to go?
You’re right about those Omegacron/Prynn plays, I didn’t think them all the way through. I did like that you teched Seers at the end to keep Prynn all runed up.

Anyway, I agree that we can start the series. Any strong feelings about going as P1 or P2?

p.s. I’m glad you enjoyed my thoughts! I started writing them down in detail mostly to justify my actions to myself, rather than simply going with my first instinct. But I’ve found that it actually helps me think of options and consequences I wouldn’t have considered otherwise.

Yeah, maybe I could have built tech 3 on T7 - I considered it. But then I wouldn’t have been able to bring Prynn, who was my only ground defense to protect Vir. I had lots of plans for Vir so that seemed important. The stingers were supposed to be fodder for Omegacrons but I actually teched the Omegacrons too late. If I already had one in hand then you would have been in considerably more trouble (in hindsight, I made a few other mistakes because I thought I could flicker future units with Geiger and worse than that, I kept Vir so that I could play Omegacron from the deck to avoid jail but future units ignore jail anyway!). The other thing about Hive is that it can turn into a Tricycloid with Temporal Distortion but the injunctions made it really hard to bring more heroes on board and Vir was more central to my play, so Geiger wasn’t around to cast it. I think Unphase was a big fat mistake. There were several turns where I wanted to use it to get around your patrol but I couldn’t because of tower. The fact you have lawful search means that you can easily see it coming and build a tower, which makes a one time invisibility not worth the effort (it also can’t work with Omegacron and is counter-sinergizes with the Hive). In the previous series, as you may have seen, I went for Tricycloids more often but ran into other problems. Hives have some advantages but Judgement day is definitely a problem. Even if you just kill the Hive, you’re doing a good trade on gold and if you kill some Stingers - you’re in great shape.

As for the series - do you want to alternate P1 and P2, or have each of us play five games one way and then the other? I have a slight preference for the latter, and a slight preference to start as P2.

Let’s do 5 and 5, I’ll set up the thread and start as P1.

I agree about Unphase being situational and pretty easy to counter. And tbh I hadn’t considered Hive + Omegacron synergy. That sounds tricky to set up, but potentially devastating.
