:lum::psfist::pschip::menelker: I don’t play Lum but he has good face cards. I kept throwing them away with Roll the Dice, but the slowdown effect was actually pretty useful. I kept touching Menelker in his tenders until he had to be wheeled out of the casino.
:valerie::psfist::pschip::menelker: This match was very explosive. I opened up with a 2 poke into 2 Bold Strokes followed by 466AA for 42 damage. The rest was relatively academic. I found the damage I needed and closed it out pretty quickly.
:quince::psfist::pschip::menelker: I’m not unfamiliar with this Menelker fellow though I have to say that Xiba doesn’t play at all like @Copper8642. I got my bones cracked but I was able to pull through at the end. Quince wallops like a brawler and Menelker is made of glass.
:quince::psfist::pschip::menelker: Random blesses me and lets me keep playing Quonce. Xiba uses Into Oblivion to banish my jacks because he hates dealing with that spin. I can’t blame him. Furthermore, if the game goes on long enough, it forces me to rely on Q-Spin which is inherently risky and K-Spin which is risky against Menelker because of Bonecracker and DSD. Alas, this game didn’t last that long. Positive Spin is a beast and a steaming plate of truth in an au jus of lies is the perfect meal for victory!

Each round Xiba had me switch, but, as you can see, the last bout of Random wanted to make sure I could keep playing Quince. #nolies GGs @Xiba!

:menelker::psfist::pschip::grave:
Really bad Grave’s hands: I think he drew max 2-3 face cards and no As at all, in first half deck, and even so, game ran to a close end!

:persephone::pschip::psfist::grave:
@GutterOwl loves this MU, I think she beated me and other Grave’s player tons of time. But I didn’t learn anything…

:persephone::psfist::pschip::troq:
I’m a Grave main, but I don’t like playing vs him, so asked for re-random: and the bull came out…even worse situation. I ate two consecutive Ks on the first two turns (at least the second one mitigated by a DAT) and a Q: half life gone in three turns! Then I managed to comeback until we came down to the last turn (7hp vs 3hp) with 50-50: I knew he had AA, a dodge and some throws, while he could suspect my AA (not real instead) or Q. I guessed right throwing his dodge!

:menelker::psfist::pschip::troq:
Here Mene open fueled: first turn BC (got rid of a Joker!) +AA. 2nd turn Joker oblivioned, but I went on low cards hand and gotta smashed by some throws. However, later a bK into AA (silent) and a final 5K++4 (topdecked on 5 attack vs a throw) with all my hand’s cards for exaclty lethal 25dmg closed it.

:zane::pschip::psfist::troq:
This is supposed to be the worst MU for Zane, but I got some good stuff and blue bursted his BU and I lost.

:zane::psfist::pschip::quince:
I never play Zane, but I kept him. Well he is insanely overpowered. Cancellor hit on first turn, but following (true) J spinning didn’t hit. Then Zane started zane’s things…

The grappler gods have truly blessed me with a big body meta today. Also Rook now has a 100% win rate for 2019 TOP TIER GUYS

I’m conflicted on whether this means everyone should play Rook because obviously this is a sign of how the rest of the year will go, or whether no one should play him so we’re guaranteed to keep that 100% win rate.

It’s not up to us anyway, it’s a random pick tournament.

So, be at peace with that which you cannot change and so forth.

Arthur Wynne vs Xiba

:vendetta: :knockdown: :psfist: :setsuki: I thought I had her on the ropes after a very favorable early game, but the ninja girl is never out of it! Comeback at the Speed of the Fox!

:vendetta: :psfist: :knockdown: :quince: Turn 1 King throw set me up for another good early game. Got a little too ham for my own good but managed to save it in the end with a 6 attack that miraculously found a throw.

:grave: :psfist: :knockdown: :quince: Hadoken! Hadoken! Hadoken! …um. It turns out it’s very hard for Quince to get in on Grave. I felt like I was in the driver’s seat for almost this whole game, but for all that, it got dicey in a few spots and went almost to time, before I closed it out with a true-spark arc.

A few interesting tendencies begin to solidify in this game. Xiba is a very honest Quince, I’m a very disrespectful, aggressive Grave (power up for known TPOS, play it immediately, go go go!), Xiba values drawing cards very highly (to the point of spinning J to dodge-side on block) and lastly, Xiba isn’t as soft on knockdown as your garden-variety Quince because his mixup normal defense is on point to the point of psychic. Every time I revealed a normal and he revealed a block for the REST OF THE SET from here on out, I believe he got it right.

I rerandom, but…

:grave: :psfist: :knockdown: :quince: History repeats itself. For most of this game I have such a significant life lead that (with the joker I am saving for insurance) I can completely disrespect everything Quince wants to do, and just play for the timeout. Which I do.

:gloria: :knockdown: :psfist: :quince: Here we have a matchup I don’t think either of us had any experience in. We basically take it in turns to put the other in our respective washing machines - first me, then him for most of the midgame, then I even it up again. In the end it comes down to both of us at 1, him spinning K with AA in hand, me with 7 of hearts known in hand… and I play Q and lose to the honest politician!

:argagarg: :psfist: :quince: This game has me worried in the beginning because Xiba changes his range significantly and starts going in with throws and even -gasp- lying, getting me down to 47 hp and low hand before I can stabilize. But as it turns out, this was just what the doctor ordered, because by then he has mostly run himself out of throws without being able to really capitalize on it, and I have been playing almost all blocks. I exploit his lack of throws and grind out a comeback as his hand shrinks while mine gets better and better.

Final Result: 4-2 to ArthurWynne

:quince::psfist::pschip::rook:
Aggressive Rook took lifelead, but later Quonce’s washing machine did it!

:gloria::pschip::psfist::rook:
This is supposed to be a really good MU for Gloria. Well, I was really bad… Rock armor destroyed me

:troq::pschip::psfist::rook:
Another aggressive Rook brutalized the bull. I was taken down quickly to 4hp vs 73hp and then smashed!

:troq::psfist::pschip::menelker:
Ok, let’s keep the bull: he’s one of the best char anyway, even if I don’t play him, so not sure to do fine. That was good! Some Ks, counter throws vs BC and bad Menelker hands did it.

:troq::psfist::pschip::onimaru:
Luckily, only one guard crash. Got rid of two of his 9s, one through a 678 mixup and another one by “being catched”. Then a Q clash (no FA on his side) closed it.

:troq::psfist::pschip::gloria:
Ok, this is a good MU for Troq too (at least based on MU charts), but Gloria is one of SPH’s best char (I guess), so… I drew pratically all my dodges in the first 20 cards and later game, after a dodge into AA, I drew an A on blue burst and topdecked the last one: divine sign for AA to close the set.

Arthur Wynne vs vengefulpickle

:gloria: :psfist: :knockdown: :geiger: Gloria came out the gate swinging, and her aggressive range took down Geiger despite a surfeit of hearts that made it a little harder than usual to find and recur A :heart:

:bbb: :knockdown: :psfist: :geiger: BBB had the run of the early game and got a decent life lead, but all the while Geiger was building up tools… one 50-odd point Temporal Distortion combo later the robot was at 10 HP and Geiger navigated the low-resource mixup afterward to take the win with his 1 card left in hand!

:bbb: :psfist: :persephone: I had a bad feeling when this game started with a Mistress’ Command which stole the Joker I topdecked on turn 2… but I was able to find AA to contest OYK and pairs to recur my aces so the game went long and very tense, back and forth to range. It all came down to the final turn dodge/throw/super mixup where Piston Hurricane beat On Your Knees to the finish line by a hair’s breadth.

:bbb: :psfist: :knockdown: :degrey: We traded damage fairly evenly in the early game as both built up big hands, but I found plenty of resources while deGrey couldn’t find his Ks (nor Js either it looked like) which let Robo-Satan go to range, stay there for a good long while and grind it out.

:vendetta: :knockdown: :psfist: :degrey: I had tools galore - Aces, 7s, Ks, Acros and a 2, but couldn’t find the right way to use them as vengefulpickle adjusted his range and blew me up with giant justice combos.

:rook: :psfist: :knockdown: :degrey: I had 5 special blocks in my opening hand(!) and drew one or two more in the course of the game(!!) so I had to play a range that I think was lighter on throws than vengefulpickle expected. I also found 6s to be safe from 7/Q and both my jokers to let me attack without fear when I felt the need to. No big haymakers this game but overall, that combination of cards was a recipe for victory.

End result: 4-2 to Arthur Wynne

Thanks for the set @vengefulpickle, good games all!

In principle I would like to object to the term “doing a snoc” for dying to a dodged super with Joker in hand but I don’t think I have much of a leg to stand on.

Well, I hate Sets, but flagrant hates her even more, rooting for me! and that was.

:rook::pschip::psfist::gloria:
I played (and lost) this MU in previous round (reverse side): he teached me how to play it!

:rook::psfist::pschip::valerie:
I took some lifelead then he landed a huge 36dmg full hand combo: good for me that I was made of rock! Then four As in a row on Val’s side: luckily first hit a SW, second one was Gold Bursted and 3rd hit an EV; the fourth one hit my face… then we rebuilt our hands but Rook’s AA finally closed it

:onimaru::psfist::pschip::valerie:
Early game with no face cards on general side, but luckily I was not punished (lack of throws on Val’s side, and when they came out, I chose right attacking), then face cards appeared supported by FA

:onimaru::psfist::pschip::gloria:
So it seems that it must be a ladies night for flagrant! But this time general was fueled with face cards, As and FA…

:grave::pschip::psfist::degrey:
Ok, that sounded good, Grave, my main!.. Instead I was hardly beated, he outspeed my raw TPoS twice (!) and easily navigated through the set (something like 70hp left…)

:grave::pschip::psfist::grave:
Ok, let’s keep my main and…ooooh mirror! This time my first TPoS (from dodge) was blue bursted (known Joker, but, hey let’s go in!) and 2nd one (well quite desperate) blocked. Half life left on his side.

:grave::psfist::pschip::jaina:
So, I have an hard head… This time it went a little better: on the other hand, I’m the big brother!

:grave::psfist::pschip::valerie:
Great starting hand, 2nd turn I had a silent TPoS online. I dealt some dmg (K6J) then blue bursted his six normals combo. Next turn I drew a MM and caught him on only attacks hand (face cards and As): free dodge into TPoS! Then PU for an A and mashed into his topdecked throw, for 2hp left: then As and Qs spamming unitll finally outspeeded his Q.

:lum::pschip::psfist::valerie:
I don’t like the panda, and rarely played him and I think you can clearly see it. I got caught again by six normals combo and this time it hurted (no speaking about AAAA retrieved…).
I did some good calls, but they weren’t enough… smashed!

:rook::psfist::pschip::valerie:
It was good that this guy is made of rock (and lots hps!)! RA hit twice for good dmg, then later game on KD turn I choose right even block for his 6 mixup attempt: then a K vs throw and a 7 attack (RA online) vs another throw, did it.

:rook::psfist::pschip::bbb:
So, final game… and probably worst MU for Rook, but… insanely draws!
1st turn EV vs RH, 2nd J (speeded up) outspeed his A, then three Qs spamming on rook side (one in hand, topdecked twice), then J7, then AA: all caught BBB’s range attempts! Rook is a hitster! and at the end topdecked 5 for SW his A…

Respect and GGs!

If the matches are being played on the weekend, can one of the participants drop a quick note in the forum somewhere? I’d love to cast some live Yomi games, but announcements are rare nowadays. :cry:

I’ll try and get AutoTO to post to the match announcements thread, as well as putting things on the calendar (although only some matches get AutoTO’d)
