IsotopeX (Black) vs Payprplayn (Feral/Anarchy/Present)

I didn’t realize that limitation on Vandy’s ability either until I double-checked her card. I was desperate for SOME way to deal with that tiger, and realized that things were going to work out better than I had planned.

This should be GG, if not, I’ll just keep wrecking him until I have lethal (which I almost did this turn)
[/details]

Yeah, it’s over. I couldn’t recover from double shark turns.

I actually thought you were in it right up until the end. If you’d hit Cala with Nether Drain instead of Geiger, you’d have probably won (because no Feral Strike, so the best I can do is something like re-max her, summon a Tiger, and build tech III.), also I’m surprised you opted for Plague Spitter over Gorgon for your Garth resurrect. The Gorgon is better in every way I can think of except damage to buildings and synergy with Plague Lord’s upkeep ability and Orpal’s maxband. If you’d summoned the Gorgon, instead of it dying and Hyperion living, it’s the other way around.

I don’t actually think your problem was Tigers or sharks. It was letting a max-level Cala sit on the board for 4 turns (well, 3 of your turns). I kept expecting Doom Grasp or Sickness+ Spreading Plague. If you let her linger that long, you’re going to get smacked with a Feral Strike eventually. I think, for example, you’d have been in a much better place if on T6, instead of fetching Dark Pact(which is deceptively expensive because it requires exhausting Vandy, so you can’t take advantage of her superior combat stats), you’d deteriorated the Merfolk Prospector, then had Vandy and the haunt kill Cala. Then my Board would be completely wiped, but you’d have a Gorgon and a maxband Vandy (albeit with 1 hp). True, I’d just built Anarchy tech II, so there was a risk of her getting killed by a monkey or a Lizzo, but even if that had happened, you’d still be in decent shape with the Gorgon threatening to kill Geiger (assuming I played him to take advantage of free levels from killing Vandy).

In any case, up for round 2? I’ll post my first turn assuming that you are, and if you’re not, you can simply ignore it. Feel free to change codices if you want, I doubt it will change my T1 much.

Off we go again. I think a weakness of this codex might be that if you spot the strategy, it can potentially be easy to stop. I need to come up with alternate routes of play so that it’s not predictable. I think the “cheat everything into play” idea works well if the opponent isn’t expecting it, but perhaps not so well if they are. I’ll ruminate on that some more when I make my first tech choice.

Believability aside, you may want to edit your thoughts.

I did, but apparently I forgot to hit “enter”, so the changes got wiped when I clicked “Discard and Draw”. I’ll fix it.

OK, I’m going White.

So I went with units first this time, since I was so starved for them last game. I’m still headed in the same direction, though, for the most part.
