Alright, first match of 2022! Older brother squad leader seems legit. I could probably punish Vandy for leveling up to kill him, and if he casts spells that’s okay. If I could get my flagbearer out that would protect illusions, so I don’t need Calamandra. Discord might punish if he goes for more weak units. I could even delay Tech 1 and go for Harmony if I see an opportunity with my aggressive hand next turn.

OK maybe no solid start in T1, although I played several time with neutral starter. Neutral against black is not easy, a 2/2 for 2g is missing for defense. Lucky that he did not play Cala, but River and bloom + messanger/spark/wither ensure vandy kill and will bring me in a bad position if I build tech1. So let’s take an unconventional path and skip tech1. Maybe I can use the disadvantage of neutral, that it can be fast down on cards.

Ooh, I wasn’t thinking of Vandy’s maxband as something that would mess with my illusions. Gotta clear the board so that doesn’t wreck me. If he has sacrifice the weak or shadow blade he can kill my patroller and then River. At least I can get a card out of the technician. I’ll try double Starlets as a way to get some strong attack potential.

Okay, we both have trashy card economy. Moby has a reshuffle, though, so I can expect stronger cards. I can’t threaten Vandy this turn. At least all of my units are patrolling so I can benefit from her maxband. Truth offers tools for hand economy and detection, so we’ll go for that. It seems early to tech, but it should survive, which would give me the opportunity to get Calamandra out to maybe rush tigers regardless of what my hand is doing.
