Well, Stewardess to battle tokens, & Immortal can survive Horrors & 1/1 boosted-ed units. I’m probably going to need some way to break through his front line, though. Thinking Vir + Unphase could be an unexpected way to make that happen early, punching Plasmodium + Nullcraft through to the back line maybe? Unphase could also be useful w/ Immortal being large enough to break buildings. Floating some gold b/c I’m going to need it on the next 2 turns, with Tech 2 being built and (hopefully) Tech 2 cards coming up…and draw looks solid, though I would’ve liked Stewardess to come up in this one

okay, stewardess wasnt unexpected. i was expecting seers for sure. but that makes sense for him. that makes LB a little less incentivizing.

runed tech 1 units are going to be important this game. 5/5 bone collectors, taxmen, etc… given that, i think that i need to delay tech 2 for now and put some pressure on. game changer will be double tech break, and the best way to do that is get some tech 1’s going.

BC to scav, drop two 2 cost units/spells, AND tech up, AND deteriorate that plasmodium when he rushes in. hopefully garth can help me recover the hand. im not expecting an early origin story, but i guess it could happen. still doesnt change my turn or plans though.

codexnewb has won w/ Garth ult against me before, so he could be going mid to bait me into tech-ing an Origin Story.

Well it worked, because I'm doing it, and it also potentially saves me from Argagarg's ult. I have a lot of anti-token stuff out here so Origin Story as a hero answer is reasonable. I'm also adding Hyperion b/c Hyperion is rad, I have Battle Suits, and I'm down on cards (damn Imp).

If he doesn't pull any hero hijinks, then I'll use Geiger's typical max-Geiger-for-twice-the-Hyperion dance.

And in other news - everything else here seems to be going OK. Keeping board clear to reduce ammo for MOLAC & Garth ult, used Mox to get to Tech 2 first, will get value out of Plasmodium. We're en route to Tech 3 w/ Tech Lab & Ebbflow Archon, who should be particularly good against these token horde decks.

Vir in the elite slot because he’ll either have to sac his hero to kill Vir, which I can live with, or max him and then leave him with 1 HP. Doubt he’d do the latter, as there’s not a ton of advantage there but I guess he’d get the unit for it without spending the card. I’m gonna be sad if he Doom Grasps my hero and then uses that 1/1 to kill my Plasmodium, though. Can’t cover all eventualities, I guess. Origin Story will be useful if this is how things go down.

Finally- floating 2 gold here so I can draw an extra card. The gold will be useful for my next turn, as Immortal+Unphase+Stewardess isn't gonna be cheap. I have not Tech-ed Assimilate yet for MOLAC, so that's a risk, but he's probably assuming that I will add it.

Definitely want to build Tech 3 next turn. Ideal would be Tech 3 and Hyperion. Teching a couple Ebbflows to increase the odds that I'll get one post-tech. Hopefully I don't draw into one now, and really hope I don't draw them at the same time :slight_smile:

… and post-draw, ugh. Not thrilled about getting that Plasmodium right away. At least I know what I’ll be worker-ing, heh. Fading Argonaut might not be so bad as a body to defend. Actually, drawing one bad card to worker is probably a good thing, and Tech 2 + Worker + Tech Lab is 7, so Fading Argonaut is kind of the perfect cost. Maybe it’s actually a good draw after all

Just realized stewardess is 3/3 due to battle suits. ill give him the second rune available at the time, and then not give the skeleton a rune at the end.

I think it’s over… don’t see how I could recover from there, so I’ll just call it here. GG! You did a great job setting up an explosive turn. My only real response would be to Rewind, which I misplayed in not adding earlier.

This is something I still can’t wrap my head around in this game - it seems like there are these two engines in Peace and Growth that are nearly identical, and they can essentially end the game on one turn, much like Tech 3 would. And whereas I might think well, it’s no big deal because multi-color decks create more obviously powerful combinations that are equally attractive, the surprise to me is that other colors seem to come up with more creative ways to enhance those engines rather than go against them.

IDK I just want a game where Reaver is viable, because it looks fun but I can’t imagine why anyone would ever play it when Drill Sergeant is an option…

Well, Reaver doesn’t have to worry about clearing patrollers out of the way of its target, and destroying workers can prevent tech buildings from being rebuilt, so it definitely has some distinct advantages over Drill Sergeant. Combined with some means of granting haste, it could produce a hard shut down, but I haven’t actually tried creating a build around it.

I think this qualifies as the you don’t actually make any functional change to correct for the rules error. Its kinda like using a floated gold when you underpaid, no actual change to the turn was needed.

Yeah. Growth and Peace are pretty commonly used. But i definitely see people branching out in this tournament as well.

one of my favorite parts about codex is picking a card and trying to find the best ways to highlight that card’s potential.

GG! I was definitely feeling nervous the whole time since tech 2 present can swing so hard.

There are quite a few cards across the specs that prove difficult to play a game around. Sometimes they make for great surprise tricks if your opponent forgets they exist, but when your opponent plays around the threat, its a complete dud.

In other words, there are quite a few cards that don’t see play in high level matches because they are a bad bet against experienced opponents.

Reaver is one of these. Betting that Now! (or bloodlust) and Seer and Time Spiral and Reaver all line up they way they are needed is a tough sell. Especially when Hyperions and Trikes make a much better immediate threat, or even Omegacrons and Hives. Reaver is a HUGE threat, but its very very slow. Flavorwise its spot on to the source material, but getting it to work is definitely a challenge.
