[Casual] Wizard [Mono-White] vs Hobusu [Mono-Purple]

Oops, the Ninja in technician slot is exhausted from attacking, should just be in play.

Go ahead and edit the Ninja’s position so it’ll be clearer for spectators and when we review the game after it’s over.

Welp, I managed to forget that FDS gives stealth…

Still, his focus on defense made that not as bad as it could’ve been. Tower to prevent his stockpiled ninjas from building infinitely is obvious. Since I didn’t get either of my teched cards, I’ll just drop Fading Argo as an even better blocker (that can’t be sidestepped so easily) and use Nullcraft to prevent him getting any funny ideas with that Aged Sensei. Teching another Argonaut for its good stats and a Sentry for Sparkshot and potentially Anti-air later. It seems likely we’ll both end up skipping Tech II for now, so the important thing is to focus on being in a better position after Setsuki is gone.

Good thinking, I’ll also put in Setsuki’s upkeep draw 2, which I omitted.

It’s a bit of a shame that Origin Story is too expensive to also play Argonaut, but at the same time I really need to avoid going so low on cards… Still, at least Setsuki’s gone now. He’s down to only three ninja tokens, all of which are guaranteed to die to my Tower even if he can somehow give them a straight shot at something with 0 ATK, and a Savior Monk that has nothing to heal (I assume it was meant to offset the Tower damage on Setsuki). Odds are good that I’ll get something useful next turn, and while I haven’t been getting any value out of Mox yet, it still makes the battle of Tech I units balanced in my favor if it drags on.

Right, so he can just re-summon her. Still, that’s quite a bit of investment to be able to just get back to where he was, and now I’ve got my Tech II up. He’ll have to choose between shutting that down and keeping my board in check, and while I’m not guaranteed to get Tricycloid next turn the odds are better than 50/50.

Thoughts

Before I move, I need to consider two different plans. I could use Tricycloid to shoot Setsuki down, or I could summon Prynn and have her cast Temporal Research to get Origin Story.

The biggest pro of the first approach is that it locks away FDS for two turns, which is huge when his plan seems to be to give Ninjutsu units stealth and/or haste with it. I’d also only be spending one card, and since there’s no need to worker more, I can start rebuilding hand size by getting a 4-card hand for next turn. However, the main downside is that Tricycloid is expensive enough that I can’t really afford to do much else that turn; for example, even if I used Temporal Research afterward, I wouldn’t be able to play any of the cards drawn from it (though doing that could still be useful to get up to a 5-card hand and maximize my chances of getting good cards next turn). I’d also lose Hardened Mox, but I’ll almost certainly lose it next turn either way, so it’s not a huge deal.

Going with Origin Story instead lets me have enough gold to play one other card, which would probably be Sentry to pressure the tokens next turn. That said, it wouldn’t remove Setsuki for as long, and even with Hyperion’s shots used up it’s still a better patroller than Sentry… So Hyperion + Temporal Research seems like the best approach. In addition, the free levels will let me get Prynn to Lv. 4, at which point she’ll be harder to kill and set up nicely to remove a key unit from play next turn.

Here comes the present tech 2 power. I’m opting to play a hero here over summoning the extra Glorious Ninja to threaten the max band ability. I would like to keep making workers, but the missed draw hurts too much here.

If I had one more gold, I could’ve added Geiger’s maxband into this and used that to both kill Glorious Ninja and destroy his Tech II, but I think prioritizing the Tech II is a better choice here since a single Glorious Ninja isn’t too big of a threat to Present Tech II. Shame I’ll have to sacrifice Geiger to keep the other stuff alive, but since I’ll be getting an Immortal to support my Hyperion and Tricycloid… I think I’ll make do somehow.

That should be a 3/3 tricycloid, right?

Don’t want to go to hard on Setsuki with Origin Story around, playing very conservatively here which may well be a mistake. I might have a shot here if my T2 survives, but its not looking good.

Since your tech 2 was down and you don’t have a Heroes’ Hall, you’re not actually able to summon a 2nd hero.

@Wizard, since it doesn’t look like Rook was that important to your plan, would you prefer to just refund the gold for summoning him or redo your turn?

Oops, good catch @Dreamfire
I will just keep the gold - @Hobusu do you mind if I swap the twin from scavenger to technician?

Lots of gold floating around here, I’ll probably build T3 next turn if I can. Dislike setting a ninja down to 1 with nullcraft around but I want to keep the unit count down while I can. Playing Grave over Garus since the 4th HP doesn’t seem to matter and the max band could be okay to snipe something past Immortals.
