I think this is my best option, Rogue is close but I’d rather put card pressure on him right away. Normally I think of Blue as pretty weak to Black, but Zane and Tiny Bs put a little bit of a kink in that, and it’s complicated by not getting Haunt or Jav in this first hand. At least I have Deteriorate and StW in the next hand, though StW is unlikely to help a lot.

Seems pretty unlike Eric to want to get a reshuffle on that Building Inspector, delaying his first teched cards… perhaps he really wants to play Newsman AND something else? He wanted a shot at Arrest for turn 2 but drew it turn 1? I’m not really sure but it seems odd.

My win condition in this matchup definitely feels like Hero pressure, especially if he’s giving up his odds on Basilisks early. Still, I can’t really afford a hero’s hall right now, it’ll have to be next turn. I think I want 4/4 split and a bait for him to kill technician so that I can still cycle, so the question is do I go Dark Pact + Fencer / Bone Collector with Vandy and Jav, or get a skeleton from Garth and then get Haunt as well. I kind of expect Newsman on 2 + TD + Tech 1? Though he may delay the tech 1 since he’ll be longer odds to draw into them. Skeleton and garth and haunt is probably better against lack of Basilisks, but otoh Dark Pact threat makes Newsman on 2 less inviting for him.

I think I go Dark Pact + BC, put the javelineer in Scavenger, and worker Haunt, which lets me do BC + Graveyard + HH next turn. That sets me up for a killing machine of Fencers and Heroes to follow up, and gives me the option of River / Two-step as well (with Garth I’m not realistically going for River / Garth, its Vandy + Friend that gives me serious threat)

Hoping this is the right move in hindsight!

EDIT: He’s not reshuffling, I’m dumb… Still think Vandy is probably the right call, though we shall see, I need to make sure there aren’t MTruth basilisk shenanigans!

Get the Dark Pact and a Deteriorate, no BC or Graveyard but I could draw into one or both, and if not those then StW! A Newsman on 0 would kinda suck with this hand though, would leave me open to Basilisk + MTruth if I can’t take down the Newsman.

Hm he sees my hand and lets me have the Oni kill eh? What’s his next move here? Double basilisks probably, maybe thinking Zane can help him out? How will I want to deal with them? Well Discord would really mess them up, maybe I go with that? And then a fencer b/c why not? Okay, that’s settled temporarily, just leaves what I do if I do / don’t draw Collector:

If yes:
Play it and patrol lookout probably? He could mid zane to kill it but that’s a terrible trade and takes Zane away, so yea that’s the best move I think

If no:
Graveyard? Float 2? Graveyard means I can replay fencers or Imp to discard like crazy, it’s going to be in an open patrol though so Zane could kill it… but will Zane really want to? Spending 5 gold just to kill it probably isn’t where he wants his gold next turn (I expect he wants to spend 4 on Basilisks!), especially when I can kill tech buildings potentially (depends on fencer draw). So yea, let’s try to keep the deck thin!

So no BC last turn but that means for sure this turn, and I have StW and Discord available to deal with them. Let’s see where the road leads for him! I have to imagine it will be 2x Basilisk + Midori? Maybe newsman on 0?

Well, I can kill both Basilisks but it’s pretty costly. I can StW one away and just play the BC to trade with the other one, that seems like a reasonable choice, especially if I patrol in Techn. The only X-Factor is Zane and the fact he’s got tons of gold to work with next turn, so sharks could be very bad. That doesn’t really feel like a thing he’d tech though? Idk maybe. I suppose a skeleton javelineer in front of BC would largely mitigate that risk, but that leaves me open to Zane maxband pressure… ugh, would have been nice to draw a fencer and just have it kill both Basilisks after resurrection…

Teching up doesn’t really feel like it’d be helpful, nor does suiciding Vandy, though he is 100% going to have the option to kill her if I don’t also patrol a hero + BC.

I could do something like River in Elite and BC in SQL, the BC will trade even and Zane can’t get free levels on a kill that way… It doesn’t exactly do me any great favors either, though, other than potentially setting up for a turn 6 meta. I don’t know that I have a ton of other great win condition options? I played myself into a corner nicely here, should have gone 2x Fencer instead of that Discord, especially with the graveyard likely available.

I think I do want Finesse tech 2 though, as Maestro and Grounded Guide would make for a nasty Fencer Graveyard engine. I think I’ll tech a Maestro and another Fencer.

I think I will do River elite and BC SQL though, as it is the best deterrent on his pressure and keeps Meta threat for me. Now the only decision is whether I StW the one in front, giving him a card in the trade but taking damage on base / tech 1 as my prize, or do I keep him down a card. I think I’d rather keep him down the card, so we’ll go with that. I mean it’s Eric, I’m probably going to lose anyway right?

Bummer didn’t draw Dark Pact, would have been nice, but I guess we’ll see what rolls around from him next turn! I expect Oni + Tech 2 + Tower and trading the Basilisk away probably? Probably Anarchy for a gunship gameplan, maybe Peace?

I’m not sure what we should do about that, it wasn’t something I really had a choice of seeing or not and I don’t think it’s affecting my decision making here (it’s either that or gunships right?), but you may want to pad your content a little bit to avoid that and if we need judgement about it I can wait to take my turn to rectify whatever needs rectify it. That notification is part of the reason why I put the matchup links at the beginning of my posts though.

And that’s why I teched away from Meta; just in case :wink: Well then there are other ways to win with this deck besides just Heroes.

So he wants to boot camp away anything stopping Basilisks from totally shutting down my (usually) hero-focused plan. How to combat that? Harmony + Dark Pact would help with swinging hard at backline stuff, and even though Harmony is channeling I can certainly charge it in a hurry… Leaping Lizard trades well with the Basilisks and deter Midori a bit, I like them with Dark Pact. I want Garth to fish out a Grounded Guide, so Nether Drain could help with that (and it helps with Oni and Zane often)…

I don’t know if it’s advisable, but I’m going with Harmony Dark Pact. Partly because I just never got to do it with this deck in this tourney and I want to try it, partly because it can probably keep him from teching up comfortably, and partly because it incentivizes me to burn through this next cycle so I can figure out something better next cycle lol… Kill the newsman and discard a card, Imp blocking is better than Garth + Skele b/c it keeps his hand unhealthy and it doesn’t leave a 3hp hero on the board for easy potential free levels (I know it’s not a big difference, he can midband oni + boot camp for a kill and end up at maxband just as easy this way)

WOAH that was a sick draw! I might end up with something like Vandy + Harmony + DPx2 and if I draw Maestro + a Fencer I could put some serious pain down! Fortune favored my teching it seems, we’ll see if he just craps all over it by killing river! I think more likely techs up, maybe I should have patrolled Lookout so he couldn’t maxband AND boot camp? Knowing this was a possible draw, that might have been better, was greedy with the technician though

Man this worked out pretty well… I’m flush with defense and have a serious siege to lay on him. Next turn I likely can bring the pain with Maestro and Dark Pacts, so teching in Starlet x2. Midori and Moment’s Peace would only delay the inevitable… this is pretty great!

I obviously would have PREFERRED to get the Maestro down NOW so I could have broken the tech 2… skipping a worker would be super worth that… UGH! But c’est la vie, sometimes you bottom deck what you need. He can try and go tech 3 but I think I’ll just dominate that pretty easily. Hopefully he sticks a hero out where it can die so I can get Maestro + fish a grounded guide, and that should lock things up pretty easily.
