[CAMS22] Round2: P1 charnel_mouse [Balance]/Blood/Strength vs P2 Dreamfire [Present]/Peace/Discipline

GLHF, @Dreamfire! I’ll get back to our other game against this deck at some point :sweat_smile:

Nerfs
Bird’s Nest Change Upkeep to “Resummon one lost bird (max: 2)”
Battle Suits Change to apply to “ Purple Soldiers and Mystics”

P1T1

Starting hand: 5

Tiger Cub
Young Treant
Ironbark Treant
Verdant Tree
Forest’s Favour

Thoughts

Present II is one of the banes of this deck by itself, since I have no good way to deal with Immortals, unless I can catch them in patrol with Entangling Vines. Dreamfire is wise enough not to let me do that. Peace’s Garrisons can be taken away with Nature Reclaims, but all they need is a turn or two to take the game, so that’s often not good enough. At least there’s no Prynn to remove maxband Drakk / Rook. Not much in the way of air / anti-air outside of Nullcraft, so maybe I try to do Birds into Balance II.

I’ll risk an early hero to stay up on cards. Oni might scare charnel into teching Tiny B’s, which match up badly against Spartners and Cadets.

Merfolk Prospector

Thoughts

Probably sticking Tiger Cub in Elite here, maybe a Wisp in Technician. Taking Bird’s Nest and Crash Bomber, since they’re cheap options that can help reach Garrisons / backline Sergeants later. Thunderclap later might be nice to push Cadets out of the way.

Nullcraft comes out to nip Prospector in the bud. That still leaves charnel with enough bodies for an Oni kill via midband Drakk, so I’ll just go ahead and trade him.

Onimaru sacrifice, interesting. Bird’s Nest should deal with that Nullcraft just fine. I need to start teching in ways to reach the backline, though. I still like the idea of Thunderclap. Keeping Young Treant over Rampant Growth, so I can recover hand size.

charnel’s going down on cards. If I can survive the early onslaught, Immortals should let me seize control.

@charnel_mouse’s turn!

P1T4

Starting hand: 3

Verdant Tree
Forest’s Favour
Spore Shambler

Thoughts

Oh, fighting Immortals it is, then. Hoping for no Hyperion or Tricycloid to kill Rook here. I have enough attack to clear the patrol, but no more, so I can just let the Fading Argonaut die from fading and keep my Panda alive.

Thunderclap isn’t terribly useful against Present II. I need cards to try to destroy Dreamfire’s base before he gets too much value from Immortals. Bloodlust and Crashbarrows/Octopi, maybe? I think those take precedence over Entangling Vines.

Good split of Immortals here.

@charnel_mouse’s turn!

P1T5

Starting hand: 4

Merfolk Prospector
Captured Bugblatter
Young Treant
Spore Shambler

Thoughts

Either midband Drakk or Spore Shambler can help my Bird kill Sparring Partner. It slows down my base attack a little bit, but the Bugblatter still damages it a little. If I use the Shambler, then the Bird can efficiently knock down Sparring Partners / Nullcraft without help for a while, but I would be going down on cards again.

I don’t think I can defend the Bugblatter well here, it’s going to be vulnerable to either Hyperion or Tricycloid, depending on whether I put it in Lookout or the backline. If a Hyperion kills it, the Hyperion is left on 1 health and I can cleanly get rid of it with a Bird, but if the Immortal kills it, the Hyperion has three health, and I’d need a runed Bird or the like to finish it off. I can’t see a better defence, though, so Lookout it is.

Immortals won’t hold midband Drakk at bay for long. Time for drastic action.

@charnel_mouse’s turn!

The way to deal with Immortals is to force you to bounce them for me, duly noted.

P1T6

Starting hand: 3

Land Octopus
Crash Bomber
Verdant Tree

Thoughts

No way to kill Geiger before playing a unit from hand here, so I’ll need to maxband Drakk myself. That leaves 4 gold, 3 on the Octopus, then 1 on either worker or Crash Bomber. Facing 8 health on patrol versus 17 attack. I think that I want to break Tech II instead of just going for base here: the longer I can keep the board Immortal-free, the better, and Tech 0/I patrol is more vulnerable to the Thunderclap I’ll have next turn.

GG WP! I think my mistake was teching double Immortals instead of one + Tric, which would’ve provided a better balance of offense and defense. Live and learn :slight_smile:

2 Likes

Maybe! I have historically struggled using this deck against Immortals, since it has no removal, and Vines can be flickered. Seems like going for the base is a good way to deal with them.
