My having Saviour Monk rather than garbage Fox Viper (as in previous game) makes the difference between Garth being safe and not. (Reversal excepted.)

Teching Bone Collector and Lich’s Bargain. Small unit spam with Drakk mid and Heroes Hall is a possible alternative to Tech2.

Well this is turning out a whole lot better than the last one. Think these White starter games have a fair amount of early draw variance, makes a big difference if you’ve Aged Sensei vs Smoker P1T1, Saviour Monk vs Viper/Primus/Flagbearer when defending, Grappling Hook when you need it.

Unfortunately drawing Crashbarrow T4, so may get an uninspiring T5 hand. So will most likely drop Lich’s Bargain next turn, look to Garth to frenzy the troops T5.

-> whiff x 2 (missed Crashbarrows, Snapback) means I can’t kill either WGD or Geiger. And have just seen your powerhouse hand, Temporal Distortion + flicker + WGD summon next hand.

Can safely say GG !

That was a beautiful combo and great Present teching and play.

And not very smart of me to bring out Drakk last turn, should have delayed bringing him out until he could make a good play. Still, close game up till then, and glad to see my deck doesn’t necessarily crumble against a strong P1 hero open.

[details=Thoughts][spoiler]

Very nice combo ! Was probably bad play by me to bring out Drakk last turn, should have kept him safe from Present shenanigans until he could arrive with a big play. Only saving grace is he skipped a worker for the second time this game.

Problem is that max Geiger and WGD both feel like “must kills”. I can kill one or the other but not both by maxing Garth to summon a Shoddy Glider. Alternatively, play Grave and Martial Mastery for 2 draws and hope to hit a good card out of the 9 in deck:

  • either of the 2 Crashbarrows is great -> kill both Geiger + WGD.
  • Snapback also good -> switch Geiger for lvl 1 Grave/Zane, then Rambasa Twin kills WGD
  • Reversal allows me kill Geiger along with Rambasa Twin, but leaves WGD alive. I guess he summons a solid unit with WGD (eg Mind Parry Monk, Kidnap-proof), builds Tech3, and I’m as good as dead from Gunships.

With 3 good cards to aim for, there’s a 58% chance of hitting at least one.

Compromise approach is to mid Garth, make and sac a Skeleton for draw, 33% chances of drawing a good card, if not can max Garth for the Glider and still be just in the game.

tbh, think I really need to kill both Geiger and WGD or this game is going to run away, so let’s go for Martial Mastery, odds are not bad.

Big whiff – drew Bloodlust and Land Octopus ! Bloodlust, Kidnapping and Octopus, all great Drakk cards when Drakk is out, feel dumb for playing him last turn. Lesson learned!

I threw in now and wgd the turn before thinking I might be able to make use of either. Imagine my surprise when I immediately drew them both perfectly. If I hadn’t, I dont know if a different hand would have been any good. And by my math you had a halfway decent chance of a crashbarrow. If Drakk hadn’t been out, Im not sure what I would have done as a kidnapped wgd is pretty bad and I didn’t have a way to keep mind parry alive enough to block you using kidnapping.
