CAMS 2017: petE ([Discipline]/Blood/Necro) vs. EricF ([Future]/Peace/Necro)

So far behind, can only be annoying rather than threatening

Game still a complete no-hoper, but at least get in an enjoyable Drakk turn.

P2, Turn 7:
Well, that certainly is annoying. Let’s see what I draw… (note that I don’t mention it explicitly, but I use Vir to peek at the top card after each draw, which makes this process somewhat less risky)
8 gold (10)
Make a Skeleton, sac it to draw (9)
Garrison (6)
Sac existing skeleton to draw
Hooded Executioner (4), draw
Garrison (1)
Knight of The Conclave, draw last 2 cards (1)
Overeager Cadet, rs and draw 2 (1)

Promise of Payment, play a free Drill Sergeant, draw last card, can’t reshuffle (1)
Promise of Payment, play a free Drill Sergeant, can’t reshuffle, 1 rune (1)
Worker (0)
Nullcraft kills Drakk, Vir to L3, my base takes 1 to 13
Garth and Vir break Tech II yet again
Zombie hits your base for 2, reducing it to 12 hp.
Discard 3, rs, Draw 5. I owe 6 gold next turn.

[details=Summary]So, I still need to tech.
Defense: 3 // 5, 4, 5 [16]
Attack: 2, 1, 3, 2+, 3f = 11 or 12. Just enough to break Tower and Tech II. No haste in deck, though even with only 10 gold, I could still go:
Garrison (7)
Garrison (4)
Skeleton draw (3)
Knight, Knight, Cadet = 8 draws off a 5 card deck and 5 card discard, so likely I could re-buy a Drill Sergeant, and maybe even get a rune or two… or just have some other Spell available… Promises of Payment, perhaps? I would need to play 6 post-DS units to have full lethal, but even 2 post-DS units would give me the partial lethal of breaking both buildings. And even if I fizzle out, having Promises in deck for next turn will be grrreat!

Guess this will be it…

P2, Turn 8
Well, you brought us on a merry chase, but things now end:

[details=Options Review]
Defense: 5, 2, 3, 3, 2 // [12] = 27 total hp
Attack: 3, 3, 4, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4 (plus 1 or more mobile runes) = 29 before counting runes: should be trivial to deal lethal [/details]

9 gold (3)
Cadet and Zombie trade with Garth, Vir to L5
2nd Cadet trades with Elite Twin
Nullcraft kills Executioner
Garth trades with Bone Collector
Executioner trades with Lookout Twin
Vir (3), DS (4), and DS (5) deal the 12 damage needed to your base.

gg!

GG, very well played !

Felt it was a mostly lost cause by the end of your T4, after Plasmo/Mox shut me out of advantageous P1 trades, and you got Peace started early ~$4 ahead of me from P2 econ. Some crazy engine you got going to get the job done !

The amount of ways he had to draw into Garrison and to play things for free is just silly. Vir and Garth are both fail-safes, and Garth can get the free Sergeant out to get runes rolling, and the Promise of Payments were just icing. Well done, @EricF.

I’m not sure what petE could have done differently to do better, other tgan not getting into a board position fight with a Peace engine.

Some sort if heavy fliers (YLD), necro trickshot, or tech 3 rush might have been able to take advantage of my lack of early pressure.

I thought of Discipline, but didn’t go for it partly because Assimilate stops me using Training Grounds (which seems to be one of that spec’s best cards). But you’re right that YLDs could be good in this matchup. Also Bloodlust combos well with them as well as with BCs. Think the default P1 plan for my deck is to overwhelm with Grave then BCs then Crashbarrows. Was maybe slow to question whether that was the right plan once Plasmo/Mox put paid to early Grave pressure.
