Hey sorry; I just replied to a PM asking @EricF for a bit more time. I got rocked at work this week, and I knew that you were going to have limited access so I let this slip. Sorry about that. I’ll try to make my next move ASAP.
Thanks. Today is my last day of insanity. Going forward I ought to be able to make 2 moves per day at least (though no pressure on your end to keep up with that yet…I think we’re good until the 20th)
@RealPiHalbe So sorry for the huge delay, especially considering a relatively simple turn. I’m ready to get back in the game! I think I still remember how to play
[details=Starting Hand and Thoughts]Plasmodium, Gilded Glaxx, Forgotten Fighter. Down on cards, so I need to keep up deck density. I’m more concerned about Gold than cards right now, actually, since Present is so expensive.
He looks like he’s either doing a Skeleton sacrifice to something like Zarramonde, or just building up an overwhelming Skeleton army. Since he doesn’t have T2 yet, I’ll go with the Tricycloids for this cycle.
No good trades this turn, unfortunately.[/details]
[details=Starting Hand and Thoughts]Tricycloid, Hyperion, Fading Argonaut. Since he didn’t go wide this turn, I think that the Hyperion is the way to go.
Draw Tricycloid off of the first Hyperion attack. Draw Immortal off of 2nd. Draw Research & Development off of 3rd.

So, I could summon a hero and some Skeletons. This is game. GG! @EricF@zhavier
I don’t know, I’ve never played with or against any purple. I found it very hard to judge, what to do. In hindsight, maybe Demonology would have been better. But then, still, I am very unsure on what I should have done. This was really hard to judge for me from the start.
Thanks for playing, though. I wish you best of luck with the rest of the tournament. Maybe beat some of the other players so that my loss is avenged,.
Present is a very strong Tech 2 (which is good since it’s Tech 3 is very rarely worth the investment imo). It just hits hard with strong, expensive units. It can be tough for most specs to stand up to if it gets rolling.
Demonology can stall Present well, but now that the rules have been clarified (and I think this tourney is using the clarification?) I think it has a hard time winning against it, since the Immortals of Present aren’t affected by Zarramonde’s Obliterate. Disease might be able to stall it since it has some units that trade up vs. Present, but probably the best approach is to try and prevent it from getting off the ground?
I’ve found Gorgons to be horrible to deal with as a Present player who teched for Hyperion shenanigans (dead hyperions can’t be flickered), and black can transition the stall and card advantage of Gorgons into a hero-centric endgame pretty effectively.
That said, I wouldn’t feel bad about losing to Hyperions, @RealPiHalbe; they are brutal, and one of the best tech 2 units in the game by a wide margin
Yeah, fun fact is that way back when I put my first multi-color deck together, I was quite afraid of Present 2, and I splashed Disease in specifically b/c the Gorgons are one of the few units in the game that trade up vs. Hyperions. I like the spec a lot but I’ve found it really wants to be paired with the rest of Black…getting off-color synergy with it isn’t easy.
