Go-to plan for his deck is Growth with Ancients fuelled by arrival spam (Birds, Lich’s Bargain, Arg, etc.). Would rather meet this with hasted MoLaC than the other plans my deck can follow (Strength with buffed Birds/Barbarians, Anarchy rush for Gunships). So expect we head for some kind of Growth mirror. I start with the P1 initiative, but have to watch for him taking that with an early T3 Tech 2 build defended by Lich’s Bargain. Alternatively he may just push the P2 econ advantage with Prospector/Galina. I’ve a decent P1 red opening split with Dog in T1 hand and Ogre in T2. So open with Dog + Rook, see if he mirrors the hero or goes for asymmetry.
Somehow always end up delaying Tech 1 build with this deck. In this case didn’t like Rook or Dog kills Wisp, play Ogre, build Tech 1 – however I patrol he can find a favourable trade. So playing out two units (Ogre/Bombaster) – takes me down a card, but have a nicely slimmed deck for now, and my three good units all in play for pressure. Along with Bird’s Nest, teching Entangling Vines for possibility of taking out SQL Ironbark or Bone Collector for a surprise Rook kill.

Entangling Vines has lined up nicely with Ironbark Treant, so I get the Rook kill. Should think about playing this P1 open more often – 9 ready atk + Vines wipes almost any P2 board. Having said that, I’m not really ahead on board, with lvl3 Rook + Bombaster against his $6 after worker spend – eg max Arg+Wisp+Elemental, Garth+Skeleton+Bone Collecter+$float. But level on board is fine as P1 if this turns into a MoLaC race, and he’s for now denied the chance to play Birds. Deck thinning also means I’m guaranteed to draw at least one of this turn’s MoLaC techs on T5.
After the draw: getting really favourable draws this game, Bird’s Nest comes into the T4 hand after the reshuffle.
Smart play, negate my haste advantage by building Tech2 early to put down MoLaC first. Don’t know how this will go. Sharks will be great for me (teching two), and I’m getting Birds in play this turn. Against that, he has the 5-card hand, and Lich’s Bargain could be crazy once his MoLaC is active, and providing he can get his Birds out to block mine.
Yeah, I think the biggest issue is that there’s no counterplay to upgrades for a lot of specs, and that makes it kind of dumb with something as game defining as MOL&C.
