I can’t really safely play a hero into Grave + Sensei, so I might as well try and cultivate an economic advantage. Between Garth and the green starter, I have plenty of tools to play defense.

I just remembered that Grave gets Versatile Style. Hopefully he doesn’t use it to blow up my Rich Earth. He’s developing a pretty nice board presence, so I’m teching Bargains to try and stop him in his tracks. Plus, there’s a decent chance that he breaks my Tech 1 this turn, so I can’t count on units to defend me. Hopefully next turn I’ll be able to play Garth + Bargain + build Tech 2.

So, I’m trying to keep the aggression dialed as high as possible while maintaining workers. My hand is suffering quite a bit for it, but the good news is I can take a break playing units because I’ve already drawn and played my awesome Tech Is. Graves could really use 2 gold to heal and buff up, especially if the Sparring Partner lives. I’m leaving him with no attacking options except Zane, who he would have to dump some serious gold into in order to have a half-decent attack. Surprise Attack! is a concern, but would wipe out his gold for the turn and probably level up Graves for me. Plus it means he isn’t going to Tech II, while I plan on that next turn!

He played more things than I had hoped he would. Hopefully double bargain here stops him for a bit. I’m sticking the skeleton in lookout next to the Horror in Technician so that he can’t profitably kill it with sparkshot without Grappling Hook.

Okay, I get to kill Grave here, and start setting up and advantageous board. I’m expecting to face Young Lightning Dragons, because of my low base health. Because of this, I decided to go ahead and grab a Taxman now instead of a Centaur. Hopefully I can trade with one before it gets to attack. Similarly, Doom Grasp lets me kill a Dragon directly.

Next turn, I’ll play the other Bone Collector, and build either Tech 2 or a Heroes’ Hall. Maybe I’ll also play Lich’s Bargain again, although that’s pretty risky at this point.

Edit: Put Aged Sensei in discard, deleted line about him killing a skeleton.

Thoughts
I shouldn’t have taken so many turns last night. I took a test and came home and was angry and today I can see some really bad plays. White has a lot of tools to deal with tokens and I have 0 in my deck. I was sticking to my basic plan of aggression + teching up, not adapting to his all-in zerg bargain strat. I HAVE to snapback this turn, because if Death Rites hit then I am done. I’ve also been wary of putting counters on heroes because of Doom Grasp. We’re both on tiny hands but I keep crashing into his PZ even though he has way more units. That’s going to stop.

Ok enough beating myself up. From this position I can see 2 “easy ways” to win. Hidden Ninja + Sensei’s Advice on a couple 3 power units/heroes is GG. He went for a heroes’ hall instead of a tower and I don’t think his specs offer any detection. Double Earthquake is more expensive, and just generally harder to pull of, but would also be an insta-kill. Downsides for that are that I don’t actually have a max Rook. I think Thunderclap would have been excellent a couple cycles ago, but it’s too late for that.

What’s he going to do? Well I think he is going to want to attack. Horror has to trade with Vigor Adept. Bone Collector can trade with either Rambasa. He can also max Zane for some shenanigans which means he has more ammo for the back line. Sparring Partner is going to die to a skeleon and maybe Rook dies to Skeleton + Max Zane? Or will he go for my tech buildings? I really wish I’d tech’d in a Trainning Grounds this game :frowning: Lightning Dragon is cool but he’s had that Gunpoint Taxman waiting for some fliers all game (and for some reason I tech’d in Bird’s Nest???).

I don’t think it’s GG this turn, especially because I’ve made sure Death Rites is off the table. If he has a Surprise Attack! then that would be a huge setback, alternately Stampede at this point would wreck me really fast. It will be a while before I can catch a cycle with Hidden Ninja and I’m not sure how much stuff I’ll have left after the dust clears. I wish I could say “It’s anyone’s game” with more confidence because I think he’s far better at setting up kills than I am.
I think Chaos mirror copies the printed attack only, so Skeleton would only be 3/1 grave 1/4 (damage from push).

Edit: Lol, nvm. I was thinking the Elite bonus made him 4, but he is max-band so he was 4 attack already.

GG!

GG. Rich Earth + Prospector really helped me play multiple Bargains without crippling myself. The Bargains were great for stymieing your initial assault, and helping me get ahead. Looking back, I’m glad that I grabbed the Taxman on turn 4, because you did actually have a Dragon in your next hand.

I did consider teching Death Rites, but decided against it specifically because of Snapback. I figured that between Doom Grasp, Chaos Mirror, and my various attackers, I had enough removal anyway and that Death Rites would be overkill.
