[Yomi Tournament] IYL 5

Dreadlands Round 9

@BD_Corro vs @MR75

BD Corro wins 3-2

:setsuki::pschip::psfist::grave: - I get an early lead but he manages to assemble tpos very quickly and we both blodge for about 20 turns, I assemble and manage to sink A+A+A+A after a dodge but then when I finally go for a throw he presses the tpos button he’s been sitting on the entire game and that’s a wrap
:setsuki::pschip::psfist::grave: - Lots of back and forth this game, I draw most of my deck, he goes low hand for most of it but gets good luck on silent aces and jokers. Finally it comes down to me on 2 health and him on 3, all jokers have been spent he dodges single ace to take it
:geiger::psfist::pschip::grave: - I get good luck on aces, 8s and 4s this game, we go pretty even on combat wins but I manage to setup a triple with R&D and land a gold burst in the same turn escalating myself to my end game out of nowhere. It takes 2 TD attempts but I manage to land a throw into a 68 damage combo
:geiger::psfist::pschip::gwen: - Really close game, he lands a bunch of damage after I fail a bluff attempt, no TD this time but 2 raw cycloids and a clutch throw of a 10 block are enough to seal the deal
:geiger::psfist::pschip::gwen: - Pretty even till mid game when I’m able to assemble all of the aces. I go into TD and get a dodge off but he’s able to bluff me into using TSH instead of a full cycloid, unfortunately I immediately sink a cycloid next turn bringing him down to around 10 life. I power-up to threaten AA again and with a significant lifelead and a joker in hand I blodge for the rest of the game and it quickly becomes unwinnable for Gwen

GGs man your grave is scary and your Gwen is starting to look pretty fierce as well

Alas not enough scary to lead me to a victory! :sob::grin:
Anyway, it was very fun. I think I need more practice over all chars…

good luck in the rest of the tourney!

ggs! the comeback was almost real in game 4. considering I hit silent Beast Unleashed on like turn 4, that’s pretty crazy!

Noticed that the season was winding down, so here’s your playoff picture for Morningstar Sanctuary. (DON’T TRUST ME JUST IN CASE I’M WRONG)

@mysticjuicer - You have taken first place.
@Fluffiness - You have earned top 3. If you win or scymrian loses, you earn second place. If you lose and scymrian wins, you earn third place.
@scymrian - You have earned top 5. If you win and Fluffiness loses, you earn second place. If you and Fluffiness both win, you earn third place. If you lose, you will qualify for the play-in game.
@CKR - You have earned top 5. If you win and Southpawhare loses, or if you win 3-0 and Southpawhare wins 3-2, you earn third place. Otherwise, you will qualify for the play-in game.
@Southpawhare - You are not guaranteed for top 5. If both you and CKR win, if the scores aren’t exactly 3-2 and 3-0, respectively, you earn third place. If you lose and CKR and Phrawger both win, you will not qualify for the play-in game. In all other scenarios, you will qualify for the play-in game.
@Phrawger - You are not guaranteed for top 5. You only qualify for the play-in game if Southpawhare loses, and both you and CKR win.

[details=Math]mysticjuicer has convincingly earned first place in the division.

Fluffiness has already lost to scymrian. Thus, he earns third place if he loses and scymrian wins, otherwise, he earns second place.

scymrian has no significant losses to his name. If both he and Southpawhare lose, then CKR slides up to third place, scymrian takes fourth, and Southpawhare takes fifth. However, if scymrian loses and Southpawhare wins, then there will be a three-way tie for third with equivalent head-to-head. In this case:

  • scymrian’s game record is currently 21-17. If he loses, his WPCT would be 0.513, 0.523, or 0.534.
  • CKR’s game record is currently 21-18. If he wins, his WPCT would be 0.571, 0.558, or 0.545.
  • Southpawhare’s game record is currently 20-16. If he wins, his WPCT would be 0.590, 0.575, or 0.561.

If CKR wins by a score of 3-0 and Southpawhare wins by a score of 3-2, then CKR takes third, Southpawhare fourth, and scymrian fifth. Otherwise, if CKR and Southpawhare both win by other scores, Southpawhare takes third, CKR fourth, and scymrian fifth.

FaceOnMars, pengwndude, variable, and mydrothers have been mathematically eliminated. Furthermore, since Jadiel has losses to Southpawhare, CKR, and Phrawger, he has also been mathematically eliminated.

Assuming a top three of mysticjuicer, Fluffiness, and scymrian:
If Southpawhare wins, he takes fourth. Furthermore, since CKR already owns victories over Phrawger and Jadiel, CKR automatically takes fifth.

If Southpawhare loses and CKR wins, CKR takes fourth. Furthermore, if Phrawger wins, then he takes fifth, since he owns victories over both Southpawhare and Jadiel.

If Southpawhare and CKR both lose, and Phrawger wins, there will be a three-way tie for fourth with equivalent head-to-head. In this case:

  • CKR’s game record is currently 21-18. If he loses, his WPCT would be 0.500, 0.512, or 0.523.
  • Southpawhare’s game record is currently 20-16. If he loses, his WPCT would be 0.513, 0.525, or 0.537.
  • Phrawger’s game record is currently 14-20. If he wins, his WPCT would be 0.459, 0.447, or 0.436.

If CKR loses by a score of 2-3 and Southpawhare loses by a score of 0-3, CKR takes fourth and Southpawhare takes fifth. Otherwise, Southpawhare takes fourth and CKR takes fifth. Phrawger cannot make the playoffs if both Southpawhare and CKR lose.[/details]

@cpat, The first tiebreaker is now head to head.

I think I accounted for that. First is head to head and second is game win PCT, correct?

If I win and Southpaw Hare wins, then he takes 3rd because he has the head to head tiebreaker. It doesn’t matter about the score. You are correct about the tiebreaker, though.

In that situation, there would be a three way tie since you beat scymrian, scymrian beat SPH, and SPH beat you.

If ye are talking about the turn on your KD when ye 7 throw got 3 attacked, I actually only had a J to follow that up with. I probably should have played my 5 attack instead so I could have presented lethal that turn with what I had in hand, but I didn’t want to get super duffed by a K. That was probably slightly too conservative of a play, but that’s part of what I remember thinking at the time! Playing the J would probably still have been correct after the 3, though, because it makes future Ks or Qs that aren’t dodged lethal! It’s not exactly what ye intended, but point taken!

:midori::psfist::knockdown::quince: I know this matchup very well now. Especially with @MadKing living in my house lmao #unfairadvantage

:midori::knockdown::psfist::geiger: I almost won this! Landed a full FDB and then died to J with 3 dodges in hand, hahaha.

:zane::psfist::knockdown::geiger: Let’s see if this works… closed it out with Anarchy beating Flash Gear. Played a bit sloppy but got the results.

:zane::psfist::knockdown::valerie: Open game with 222288Joker. Contingency plan of power up everything for Anarchy available, so I turtle hard and dodge A LOT, begging Val to Throw me. At 2 HP, she finally tries, and my 2 poke hits.

Great games! Glad to finally get a set against you!

I considered opening with Geiger, but then I decided I like playing Quince more so I went with him. I have a terrible record against Midori as Quince and the first match put that on full display. I generally feel like the MU favors Midori but I think that might just be bias since I’m so awful at it.

I switch to Geiger since I still enjoy playing him and I’d like the set to last longer than 7 minutes. I do Geiger things and it works out because I don’t have a garbage hand.

After that I see Zane come out, which I didn’t expect. I thought Menelker was coming. Anywho, I had an excellent hand during this game but I still lose to Anarchy, which is a recurring theme in my games against Zane.

After losing I switch to Valerie because she’s the only character I play who I feel like does alright against Zane. @cpat tells me it’s a pretty bad MU for her, but I feel like Valerie has options while Quince just falls down and drowns and Persephone gets kicked once and dies.

I should admit that I totally went into this set intimidated and star struck! I admire Leontes a great deal and I was definitely playing really fast and loose. Even so, I had an excellent time playing!

All in all, I’m glad I won a game against the legendary @Leontes

:setsuki: :psfist::pschip: :grave: Get hit by TPOS, manage to overcome the defecit.
:setsuki: :pschip::psfist: :grave: Early throw game gets shut down by lots of red cards. Finally get to ~20hp vs ~11 with KD, with 59QA or something. Go for A to hedge for block damage, get blown up by silent TPOS.
:setsuki: :pschip::psfist: :grave: SILENT TPOS AGAIN AAAAA
:valerie: :pschip::psfist: :grave: I draw nothing, he draws all the face cards and aces. I’m 3-90 down, get a big 35 damage combo in for some aces, then die.

GGs! Would be really really easy to blame this on draws, but I definitely misplayed at least the end of G2 not going for Q. I figured enough Dragonhearts were in the discard for me to go for an attack but I didn’t expect the TPOS. Then after that I was kind of tilted. Did a better job of hanging on than I have in the past, but I think it still forced me into some bad decisions.

Indeed tonight I got much luck.

First of all, I was expecting (and fearing) your :gloria: !!

G1, after TPOS hit, I wasn’t able to touch you again, till my lost, and then G2 I went for really desperation move with TPOS on my KD, expecting your last Q, but, hey, mrs luck decided to help me!
G3, my first hand was really good: AA and Joker, then after few draws came out 3rd A and 7s: when I KD you, I knew from previous MM that you had no block and a Joker, so I decided to try TPOS (silent however ), hoping no Gold Burst, and here, luck was agree again…
G4 surely is an example of good draws vs bad draws. I drew Qs and As (not forgetting some 7s, just to know you had no Joker, As, Qs) and for my playstyle they are providence.

GGs mate!
Good luck in the rest of the tourney!

I would be salty about the last game too, as I kept drawing Jokers and Q to make a crazy comeback happen, but I also got hit in the face with QQAA early in the game so I don’t feel bad about it.

Basically, I will never feel bad about beating Troq.

UtraLaw vs Hobusu

:chibionimaru::psfist::pschip::degrey: Match started with a few double blocks on both side with me unwilling to throw out an attack. Hobusu then threw into AA for first big damage. But came back by powering up for my own Aces and attached a bunch to make any face card combat win for me hit for big damage. Both side hit really hard and soon the match came down to him powering up for more Aces and me winning by catching a throw attempt.
:chibionimaru::psfist::pschip::degrey: Game two started mostly the same block/block on both sides. Seem like Hobusu had a weird starting hand. Soon had a hand that had some throws in it. And started to mix up my attacks was able to dodge two big attack and hit back with some Normal for damage. Drawing all my 7 throws also help and started throwing like a mad men catching a few Ace dodge along the way. Soon had a Big life lead but was almost hit by a close to 40 damage combo but joker it away. From there i had too much good option and ended the game.
:chibionimaru::pschip::psfist::degrey: The games up to this point had Hobusu playing his 4 ability with PCP as back up most of the time. But me playing attack into most of them :P. this game got hit by a few hidden PCP and was punish for attacking to let Hobusu gain alot health and hitting me back with some big Damage. Game ended when he threw me as i was fearing a K from his side.
:rook::pschip::psfist::degrey: My normal pick for Degrey was to challenge with my own Degrey but tonight was different something about Hobusu Degrey made me think no i want to play someone else. So i went with a old favorite and in my opinion a bad match up for Degrey in Rook. Started strong build up a hand while hitting him down to 55 health then hitting him with checkmate buster to get him down to 5 health but then could not seal the deal. Got hit my a raw bunk and then later was threw into 87J for his win.
:rook::psfist::pschip::degrey: liked how the match went even so i lost so stayed with Rook. this time around he threw into alot of my blocks and did not let me rock amour at all so many joker into my attack! But i was able to hit back by with my Ks whenever he try to attack with speedy attacks. Mid game got hit my a raw Q into AA with MHG damage which tie up the game. With him at 47 health i picked that time to power up for Checkmate buster again and got lucky with some duff on his throw turns. Then the match ended with me playing AA into a his Q to close out the set.

UtraLaw wins 3-2

GGS Hobusu every game was very tense, it was a first for me to play the Oni Degrey match on the Oni side felt very werid lol.
