I see no good ways for him to pop an illusion that’s not patrolling, i think unphase is about it, so preliminarily gonna spam illusions…

well, unfortunately for the ‘experimental’ part of this tournament, going hard on illusions just seems the best thing to do… something to do with Present and Disease’s many ways of popping illusions could be fun with dreamscape i guess; but anything relying on too much hero setup is weak to snapback
oh yeah i still don’t want to be patrolling any illusions so tech an argo for defence and a hound for attacking (if i don’t draw argo not so bad as they’ve locked themselves out of Zane for a bit)

after drawing as convenient a hand as that the only real choice was whether to lose mirror or BI to the monk, while BI could ping his tech 1 and may impose another fine yet the Mirror is better as a threat of transforming it by maxbanding Quince

as i’m down on a card already why not avoid Truth and follow up on this lead with some Present aggression, big units are also fun to copy with Quince

I can’t imagine I’m going to win but I think we need to put Calypso into SQL to prevent it from being picked off by the Aven. We put the Ninja in Elite so it can murder a Hyperion, should one be coming. That said, it will just die to a Tricycloid so I guess we’re just hoping for a Hyperion. Vir is here just to pad everything out and potentially give me some CARDS.

firstly this matchup was tilted my way from the start, you have no practical way to pop illusions on my backline and as P1 i could stay aggressive enough to avoid patrolling them (where they could be grapple hooked, vystaried and Zaned)

T1 - hiring Setsuki does let you cast white starter spells without penalty, but it meant i didn’t have to fear Zane charging in and lets me be more aggressive without needing to patrol so much, tough choice

T2 - with my offensive start with Aven it’s unlikely you’ll be doing much attacking for a while so Safe Attacking might not see much use; considering you ended up low on cards in this game consider a tower here instead of a second card? also will limit my aven to 2 more attacks

T3 - Calypso Vystari again is better when you’re doing the attacking, a beefier tech 1 may have stalled me more, when you saw you were floating 1g on turn 2 a Gilded Glaxx wouldn’t have even stopped you building tech 2
also T3, considering you’re low on cards, if the technician draw hadn’t produced Glorious Ninja (I’m assuming you didn’t tech him on turn 2!) the 4g spent on tech 2 could’ve had no immediate effect, anything else to spend it on?

I don’t want to give unsolicited advice (proceeds to do just that) so I hid it in the thoughts spoiler, but after the game if you want to read my ‘thoughts’ tab on this turn I wrote some things I would’ve done differently in your position for this game

@flagrantangles’s turn!

Ya got this right, but on turn 3 the building inspector should’ve gone to your discard after your discard/draw step, as your turn ends after that step.

Good point and good reminder. I will keep that in mind in my future MT plays.

I don’t mind the advice, but I always feel like I want to have some kind of disclaimer regarding it. I love how many people want to help build skill, but the years of reading and even asking advice have revealed to me that I do not have any aptitude for Codex. I used to be more upset by that, but I’ve come to peace with it.

All this to say that your advice is probably good and great and is almost certainly wasted on me. I’ll read it and maybe yours will be the one that breaks through, but years of experience with myself says that I probably won’t be able to parse or internalize your advice in any meaningful way.

And just to drive this home with a moderately funny anecdote, I’ve played a pretty significant number of games with a friend who is better than I am where they played with no hidden information whatsoever and I still lost every single one of them. I just don’t play or understand this game in a skillful way.

I am confident my attempt at advice is nothing special so disclaimer fully accepted and I’m just glad you enjoy the game : )

As for dealing with what bomber pointed out, please can a judge approve what I say next or tell me to do something else:

not for flagrantangles as I mention cards you didn't see

At the start of T5 I would have had an empty deck with Arrest in hand instead of BI, I’m happy to miss the opportunity to use arrest without having to draw it so can I roll back to the line “Hyperion real destroys your tech 2, i draw” and draw from a reshuffled deck including BI?

Ah yes there i go assuming the people helping to judge watch all the matches 24/7 without being pinged…

Let’s see who’s a judge, @zhavier or @FrozenStorm can you help pls?

I’m watching you 24/7 :kissing_heart: and would like to help but since I’m not a competent person, I will keep you company till judges arrive

@bansa you’re knowledgeable, trustworthy, and online enough to be a judge, ask @charnel_mouse to make you official

Let me read up on the issue here, I’ll edit in a response…

EDIT okay let me clarify w/ dwarddd:

I don’t think you need to roll anything back or fuss too much about the deck state. Your turn 5 was valid minus the deck state issue that’s known from Bomber’s note and it’s too hard to roll back and would not have affected the outcome significantly. My advice to resolve the error is to just play on at this point; the BI being out of sorts for cycling doesn’t seem to have affected anything significantly to my eye.

Thank you for pinging me, I’ve got a lot going on work-wise and life-wise right now so I’m definitely just a player in this tourney right now, not watching other games closely!

Yea I concur with FrozenStorm if I’m understanding the situation correctly. Not sure about being a judge but thanks for the recommendation

I assume your friend doesn’t play here? I wonder how much Codex presence there is outside of the forum. Maybe they are intimidated by the idea of PBF plays as I was before.
