Some of these matches were very close and it was tense for both of us. I’m still a little wobbly. I will provide more feedback later because I’ve got friends in town. That said, very good games Legion! I sincerely did not think I was going to win this set since I have typically lost to you in other sets we’ve played. You played the Persephone side of the MU far more differently than I expected and it was nervewracking!

We had to arrange this game for MD’s morning time and he played through some bad sleep deprivation like a trooper, politely declining the offer of a delay/re-arrange. Game one had a hype Surgical Strike / True Spark Arc clash near the end to bring a very close finish.

Ggs MD!

yeah, ggs. Game 2 lost because hand was bad and u pressured me making impossible to recover.
My only regrets are lost n°3 (due to cowardice, hence play scared die scared) and the last, cuz a ven with no jokers no 7, J, aces is really a crappy one :frowning2: It really did not felt like a game, my hand was so bad and you kept drawing jokers and 2s :sob:

GGs dood. Despite what was indicated here, I don’t think that my lack of sleep was the problem. I think my problem was that I spent 2 games experimenting with characters that I don’t play with any sort of regularity. It was probably too late to salvage anything out of this set once I decided to switch to someone I actually play, but at least we had fun in this set.

It doesn’t hurt that Attilian played the one guy on the roster that I think is the weirdest guy to at against. Most of my gameplans come from working around a character’s gimmicky bulls—, so when I play a Grave that forces me into true, honest-to-God Yomi, my mind draws a blank. Even on KtO turns, I have trouble playing anything other than RPS cycles.

MR advances over Juushichi by TO decision.

And with that, we have our Top 8!

  1. @flagrantangles awaits in winner’s side of grand finals
  2. @Legion awaits in loser’s finals
  3. @Castanietzsche and @mysticjuicer are in loser’s round 6
  4. @Attilian, @Caralad, @GutterOwl, and @MR75 are in loser’s round 5

Congrats to everyone who has made it this far! Good luck to everyone except the people I’m going to fight, obviously.

Thank you to everyone else who participated in the event! I hope it was a good experience. Let me know if you have any feedback for me about scheduling, the format, or anything to with the event, either in this thread or by PM if you’d prefer. Hope to see you all in the next 19XX!

I’m so excited that I’m in Grand Finals! I’m spooked by everyone I might meet in bracket! Good luck to everyone! May the draws be ever in your favor!

When I get home I’ll put together the usual popularity and success charts for the event so far.

Hah! Who can wait when there’s stats to gather!

#Most Popular Kerfuffle Picks

It seems my musings about Argagarg being a less popular character this time around were wrong as hell! The fish remains as popular in the format as ever. Grave has always been a popular pick in the format, and with MR’s success, it’s no surprise to see him near the top of the pack.

I’m not sure Quince and Gwen, of all characters, have ever performed quite as well as in this event! Their placement above Setsuki is particularly surprising to me, though the Setsuki mains Fivec and BD_Corro didn’t participate this time around. Still, Setsuki saw lots of play anyway. Valerie continues to do well in an environment where lots of her natural predators are banned.

Lum, for the first time in a long time, actually cracked the top half of the popularity list! I can bear-ly believe my eyes! Gloria closes out the top half of the popularity contest, no doubt keeping those pesky fish at bay keeps her in a lot of players’ contact lists.

Persephone has always been repped primarily by character specialists, so no surprise to see her low in the list, though Arg’s popularity may have driven people to the shadows as well as the light. Orange Rook and Rook are nestled up with Midori, possibly drowned by Prom King Argagarg.

Jaina finally abandons the bottom spot, possibly for the very first time in the history of the format, narrowly beating out another character specialist favourite, Menelker. enomus will no doubt be disappointed that Vendetta was picked more often than grappler CP BBB. Seems the lesson here is that you can’t get CP’d by BBB if you don’t play grapplers.

#Most Successful Kerfuffle Picks

Grave, Quince, Argagarg, Lum, and Rook at near 60% winrates. O-ok. I mean, I really don’t know what to say about that. That’s pretty wild. Historically Grave and Arg do very well in this format, but I have to assume that Lum and Rook are doing some real work as counter-picks, or they’re exploiting some player weaknesses. …or they’re getting lucky by never matching up against Argagarg players.

Valerie is doing well, which is not a surprise. Gwen tho?! That’s definitely a surprise to me. Both relatively popular and relatively successful? GWEN META CONFIRMED?!?! She even beat out Persephone in the winrate wars, as is canonical for their match-up! Madness.

Onimaru continues to do okay in this format, which is surprising given how freaking popular Argagarg is. Confirmed 50/50 match-up? I’ve certainly been taken to town in it. And I mean, it’s better for Onimaru than for Rook… Hmm.

BBB counterpicked grapplers three times and then lost the next match 4 times… somehow. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Gloria, having more popular characters to counterpick still seems not to have worked out on the whole. The perils of playing a complicated character for a single advantaged MU? Could be.

Setsuki with 34% winrate. Definite outlier in this event. Maybe she’s not as brainless as people like to claim! Could… could Fivec be… good? :open_mouth: It remains to be seen if we’ll finally have a non-ninja character win the last game in grandfinals. I… I’m not ready to believe quite yet, given my losses in winner’s finals.

Menelker may have killed Midori in Yomi lore, but in this tournament they’re both dead characters. Small consolation that they performed better than the undead assassin and eternal holder of the ‘Worst Character in 19XX’ award, Jaina. :’(

Edit: looking at Waifu 2 results, I have to take back my shade at Jaina. Seems like last event she finished with a 47% winrate! :open_mouth: Look, no one is more surprised than I am, frankly.

Behold the success of Flagstone’s Chief Magistrate! :quince: Time for my final edicts to guarantee victory.

I think I may have been the only one playing Vendetta, so we can likely attribute at least part of the 2/7 rating to my general newbyness on that front.

I am not making the claim that Setsuki is braindead, but that and Fivec being good can still be mutually exclusive.

Who let this owl in here?! Put her back in the gutter! But don’t do it in Flagstone. Littering is illegal here.

I see how it is with Quince: clean in the streets, dirty in the sheets, huh?

My secret read is that GutterOwl is the legendary ChokeArtist returned to the Yomi scene, but she’s suffering from amnesia. She may also be on the trail of her father’s killer. It’s too early in the season to leave anything off the table, imo.

The true anime story is my coming back from Losers to fight the man who destroyed me in the opening episode. While beating my evil doppelganger in Losers 6, fellow “back from the brink” buddy MR in Losers Semi’s, and my former mentor in Losers Finals.
