Teaching the ropes casually: HolyTispon vs. FrozenStorm

No draw just copy-pasta, deck is at 5 discard at 7 (sorry about that lol)

So what do you think happens to the soul stone when you trash the Glaxx?

Edit: confirmed with Sotek on Discord that it goes to discard when the Glaxx is trashed.

Thoughts

I was originally kind of perplexed by the move to spend so much money on Prynn and then patroll with her alone when I have the Hound ready to attack as well as Vandy - if I didnā€™t have Shadow Blade, I could have tutored for it. So it seems like kind of an expensive way to get rid of the Glaxx temporerily. But then I learned that not only will he have arrival fatigue, but also thatā€™s a way to get rid of the Soul Stone so I guess I can see the point. Still, seems like an expensive investment in a hero thatā€™s not going to last. Perhaps Rook is coming back soon? He probably would want to get that nest again if possible, and he can now max him right away.
Anyway, I skipped a worker for a big turn - killing Prynn, breaking the tower and bringing Hive. And on top of it, hurting his hand. The Hive should stop the pesky birds and nullcraft, and next turn should start threatening to do real damage. Hive has resist 1, but I have also teched unphase to try and protect it from Prynn in the future. I considered an alternative - bringing Vir out, tutoring for metamorphosis and bringing the mech. I wouldnā€™t be able to kill Prynn or the tower, but my heroes would be invisible. He would still be able to ping my tech 2 for another turn but Vandy would at most get 1 more damage and could do a lot of damage next turn. I still wonder if that was a better turn (I could still do it next turn) but I worried that he would use Prynn for things or find a way to break my tech 2. It seems good to break his tower and put up a defense that blcoks his only advantage and then meta next turn, when his tower is broken. Anyway, both seem strong options. I think he is preparing for met as Iā€™ve been threatening it for a little while so Iā€™ll go for the less expected tech.

I think this is my best move. Itā€™s the only way I could find to kill both ancients. I wanted to use Shadow blade instead of attacking with Vandy but that would mean Iā€™m 1 damage short. I also was hoping to get unphase so I could hide the hive but no luck - next turn itā€™s likely to be disappeared by Prynn, which is expensive but heā€™ll be able to stall another turn through his very thin deck to get those ancients out again. Iā€™m not sure what Iā€™ll have out by then but skipping all these workers mean my deck is really huge.

If Iā€™m not mistaken, the ancient should be in his discard still. Heā€™s probably not teching cards as he is hoping to get them. Putting some damage on Prynn will help prevent her from attacking, which I think is the only way she has to gain new runes. Sheā€™ll start the next turn with one rune and if she doesnā€™t attack, thatā€™s her last turn. Then I have this decision what to do with my last gold - I can keep for next turn, which will also protect Glaxx, I can make another worker which will mean Iā€™ll draw one less card or I can exchange the Void Star with the card on top of my deck to make sure I get it next turn. I think the last move is the best one - Unphase wonā€™t help me when Vir is dead, I donā€™t think anything in particular is threatening the Glaxx and I think I need cards more than money in this phase of the game. I considered hitting his hand with the imp but itā€™s pretty expensive and I think that itā€™s all about the Ancients now anyway.

Seriously no ancient or archon was a 13% draw here, but on the plus side Birdā€™s Nest does at least keep the Void Star from locking my tech 3 off by itself (combat spells obviously could change that equation), and Dinosize gets Prynn another attack safely.

In hindsight, Seer would have been much better than Giant Panda, but oh well.
ā€¦
Phew got an Archon, fingers crossed he doesnā€™t have a Shadow Blade / Deteriorate / StW combo drawn (if he does I could be very fucked, as I donā€™t have any ancients to give this nullcraft a buffā€¦
[/spoiler][/details]

Hmmā€¦ I had my turn ready and now I see youā€™ve changed your patrol. New plan coming upā€¦ itā€™s locked in now?

Yes Iā€™m sorry about that, I changed the patrol to maximize my chance of getting 1 thing I want available for next turn to survive, when I know Iā€™m likely to lose 2-3 of the good options depending on whatā€™s in your hand.

[details=Why Changing Rook to SQL seems better to me][spoiler]
At least 1 bird is likely to die to whatā€™s in hand. I want the Void Star to decide between Birds / Buildings and killing ground forces, and Rook in SQL protects my ground forces from his better. If I can get one of my Tech 3, Birds, or Rook to Survive to next turn, it maximizes my chances of keeping air support blocking for next turn

The old patrol (Rook in Elite) allowed his ground forces to kill Rook while Void Star + one combat spell kill birds + tech 3
[/spoiler][/details]

Itā€™s final now, go ahead with your next turn, and again sorry for the 20-minute ninja edit but the more I considered having Rook in Elite, the more I realized it was a poor decision

No worries. I have done it as well in this game (though I was thinking about it that technically you set in your patrol before you see your next hand. I do t think it matters in your case, but in mine it could because it was choosing a tech or scav. I just saw you posted a turn last night, made a plan this morning and was about to post it. I think I can take out most of the things you hope to keep for next turn, but not allā€¦

Yea you shouldnā€™t be able to re-arrange post draw, in this case though what I drew was irrelevant to the line of reasoning as to why this is a superior patrol.

In a tourney I obviously would just eat the bad patrol, but seeing as this is casual practice and weā€™re already working with a 13% case that I didnā€™t draw an Ancient or Tech 3 last turn, I think the best practice for you is to play against this patrol vs the old one

Iā€™ll take an even game here if I canā€¦ but why wonā€™t that damned Prynn fade already? Sheā€™s so yesterdayā€¦

I believe he was going for Archons so I opted to break the tech lab. I could have gone for Prynn to get hive back or pay the cost for extra attack and break tech 2 or 3, but that would mean no Xenostalker. I know he can pop the mirror easily but i think its important to force his hand. Also, I considered bringing the imp instrad of Xeno which would allow me to worker, but at this point i just want to play with the cool cards. Oops, I canā€™t afford a mirror because I sacā€™ed the weak. That was a consequence of his patrol change - couldnā€™t kill Rook with Quince + hound.

"

Also, Iā€™m guessing you went for Archons for tech 3 and hope you have two in hand, with an ancient discarded by the blade. Just playing my odds.

[details=My Thoughts]
Here we go, keep trying to neutralize as much as possible and protect Ancients + make him choose which building to kill. He canā€™t easily take my tech 3, so letā€™s hope guargum draw lines up with that. If not, weā€™ll have to go back to Prynn next turn and hope to keep stalling long enough to find lethal amounts of runes

You know, Iā€™ve been wondering why this card hasnā€™t come out of my deck yet. Itā€™s because I havenā€™t teched it at all for some reason (though I was sure I did).

Thoughts

I still believe heā€™s going for Archon so breaking the tech lab is as good as breaking tech 3. I still have to deal with ancients which is bad enough. Heā€™s likely to summon a second one next turn but the question is how many units he can summon to gain runes. He only has stewardess and the ancient to attack with and I doubt heā€™ll attack with Arg. I am likely to lose both mirrors as he canā€™t afford to let me keep those. The fact I havenā€™t teched Omegacron so far is kind of hilarious. Luckily I drew the Mind Control so if Quince survives (and I think he will, he only has 3 attackers and I have 3 patrollers, and even if he finds a way to pop that mirror I doubt that Quince will be a prime target as heā€™s been dealing with mirrors easily) Iā€™ll be able to kidnap his second ancient.
