Persephone's Pick Your Poison: Arsenic - SIGN UP BY 3/30

As defending champ I guess I’m in although these rules are fairly different and kind of weird compared to last time. I assume picking happens before G1 and you can’t repeat a matchup? Having 24 matchups for the uneven part I feel is less fun than just whatever the 10 worst are in yomi to choose from but that’s just my opinion, and that they aren’t the 24 worst MUs in the game here means probably the same few will always be chosen. This lets people stay in their comfort zone a little more but its a small squabble. Either way you can count me in

I wasn’t able to find the old rules (or the old MU lists) so I’m interested to hear about the differences.

How many uneven MUs were there to pick from? How many even MUs? How did the selection happen?

10 and 10, we just picked what we thought were the 10 most lopsided matchups in the game for the first half and 10 5-5s that are the least played MUs in the game. Doesn’t mean its bettetr or worse, just what we did

it just meant you were deciding between bbb-rook or arg-lum instead of softer but more varied options here. This seems perfectly fine to me too, its better for char specialists this way, they actually get less bad MUs than they’re used to but whatever lol

Alright, we’ll stick w/ the current lists for now, and you can tell me which one went better before I run the next edition. =)

When does it start? I didn’t see anything about that.

Also, back of the envelope math: currently, we have 10 players, which means 5 games a week (until some players are eliminated). We need to accumulate at least 3*9 = 27 losses, so we can expect this to run at least 6 weeks, possibly longer.

If we went double elim, we’d have a round of playins, plus 4 weeks of games (if I’m doing my bracket math right, which I’m probably not).

I’ll send out the first round of matches Mar 31st (or shortly thereafter)

So not for a few days or so. Thanks

I’m open to either, I think.

Just for reference sake if it helps. Your format looks easier to run because those matchups were community decided.

Thanks! I think the one part that I am going to adopt is the no-repeated-matches rule.

So, unless @Ivan or @Castanietzsche want to stack the vote, we’ll run this as a diminishing-swiss, starting on Sunday (more or less).

Also, I’ll sign up.

You’re in! Also, you have one of the deciding votes on diminishing-swiss vs double-elim (although, if we get any more late signups, I’ll probably move my vote over to double-elim as well).

Alrighty! The bracket’s locked in. You should see match emails coming out shortly (assuming I don’t get rate limited because I’m sending these and IYL out at the same time).

ArthurWynne vs @Nopethebard

Hope we did the picking right… it just alternates from high to low seed without regard for who wins the rounds, right?

I picked the first MU. Nope chose Setsuki.
:persephone:  :psfist: :setsuki: Had AA for much of the game but was too cowardly to play it - with predictable results.

:troq: :psfist:  :gwen: Two Kings and a J in the opening hand… Even blowing me up with J+K++A+ wasn’t enough to get the lead back after that.

:argagarg:  :psfist: :quince: I thought he picked the “wrong” side of this match-up but it sure didn’t feel that way!

:zane: :psfist:  :jaina: If Jaina is bottom tier, and Zane is like a better Jaina, that means Zane is fair, right?

:valerie: :psfist:  :bbb: Valerie got a 6-card straight on turn 1… the robot fought valiantly but both the quality and quantity of cards was on Valerie’s side.

:argagarg: :psfist:  :menelker: Down to the wire!

Final result: 4-2 to ArthurWynne!

I hate BBB regardless of what side I’m on. Also I made terrible MU choices.

everybody is a better jaina.
